THE LAWTON CONSTITUTION, Friday, June 18, 1976 29 ORU Selects New Baseball Coach TULSA (AP) Oral Roberts University has named Larry Cochell, coach at California State-Los Angeles for the past five years, as its new baseball coach. He replaces Herb Dallis, who resigned two weeks ago to become a full-time physicial education instructor. Cochell, who will serve as head coach for the United States College All-Star team that will tour Japan next week, was chosen from among 32 applicants. It also was learned that a new golf coach will be named sometime after ORU athletic director Bob Brooks returns from a melting next week in Florida of athletic directors. Mike Holder, coach of Oklahoma State University's national championship golf team, has interviewed for the job but he said no offer was made.

It's also reported that Wake Forest Coach Jess Haddock also has applied. CHICAGO (AP) Ken Holtzman, the newest of the new New York Yankees, insists he's never been as unhappy with various ball clubs as reputed. The 30-year-old left-hander who has been with three different ball clubs in nearly as many weeks, talked freely Thursday night after donning a Yankee uniform for the first time. Holtzman started the season with the Oakland A's, went in a trade to the Baltimore Orioles and Tuesday night was involved in a nine-player swap between the Orioles and the Yankees. "It's not true that I've been unhappy wherever I've been," said the candid Holtzman, who broke into the major leagues with the Chicago Cubs after a sterling college career at the University of Illinois.

"I've never been unhappy with a city although, if you speak geographically, I'd rather be in Chicago because this is where I make my home. "But I'm a professional ball player and I'm in the game for the economics and not the geography. Am I happy with the Yankees? I don't know yet. I'll be happy with any team offering me the contract I want. When we get to New York, I'll sit down with the Yankees and talk about it." Pro Mafrnen Meet Cowboy Bill Watts, the former Oklahoma University football and mat star, will be in real danger of losing his North American heavyweight championship when he squares off against strongman Ken Patera on a special wrestling card tonight at the Great.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) Lawyers for the National Basketball Association appear before a federal judge today, hoping to convince him to lift a court order that prohibits the NBA from approving sale of the Buffalo Braves. Opposition was to come from Leslie G. Foschio, the City of Buffalo's corporation counsel, who obtained the order Tuesday from Judge John T. Elfvin of U.S.

District Court. At the same time, Foschio filed a federal antitrust action Sports In Brief against the Braves, seeking $48 million in damages. In another action Tuesday, Foschio filed a $10 million damage suit in state Supreme Court against the six-year-old team charging breach of contract over a 15-year lease for use of Memorial Auditorium. The terms were agreed upon but Braves owner Paul Snyder has not signed the pact. Foschio went to court again Thursday and obtained from Justice Joseph J.

Sedita of state Supreme Court an order barring the Braves from trying to sell or transfer their assets until next Thursday when Sedita will hear arguments. EASTBlOURNE, England (AP) -From the top all the way into the ranks of the lesser-known youngsters, Chris Evert and Virginia Wade feel the quality of women's tennis is at its highest peak. Chris, of course, is considered the top, the No. 1-ranked woman in the world and the top seed both for the grass tournament here and again next week at-Wimbledon. She has been saying for several days that her tennis is at a new and higher level, crediting team tennis with her improvement.

She had to be close to top form Thursday to get by Betty Stove of The Netherlands 7-5, 6-4 and reach today's semifinals against Russia's Olga Morozova, a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Rosie Casals of San Francisco. Miss Wade, second-seeded here and the defending champion, followed with praise for the higher playing level of the entire women's circuit. It only seemed natural because she had just been extended to three difficult sets by improving, but relatively unknown, Iowa-born Mona Guerrant, who now lives in Scottsdale, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Miss Wade now meets transplanted Czech Martina Navratilova, now living in the United States, who defeated another comer, Betsy Nagelsoen of St. Petersburg, 6-2, 6-3.

ONE HIT doesn't end a slump, but in the case of Dave Kingman, it usually ends.a ball game. Kingman either strikes out or hits it out and Thursday night, it was the latter. "I'm still swinging at bad pitches, I'm still in a slump," Kingman insisted despite a 14th-inning home run that led the New York Mets to a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kingman's homer was his 23rd of the season, but only his first at home since May 28. He prefers hitting on the road, obviously.

"I feel less pressure on the road," said Kingman, who hit his last seven shots away Shea a i "These last few days, I've been wishing we'd been on the road." Despite leading the major leagues in home runs and despite a healthy RBI figure of 50, Kingman is not happy with his season. He had hoped more consistency than just a .240 batting average, as well as less strikeouts. "I have a good day and then I have a bad day," Kingman said. "I would rather be mediocre. I have been having some rather bad days lately." They haven't been against the Dodgers, though.

In all four Met victories over Los Angeles this season, Kingman got the big hit. In the only other National League game, the Philadelphia Phillies nipped the San Francisco Giants 3-2.
