Pioneer Citizen of Travis County Dies at Ripe Age. Eph N. Mayfield, aged 74 years, died yesterday after a protracted illness at his home, 1208 Trinity street. He was born at Nashville, February 27, 1833, came with his parents to Texas when about 11 years old and settled with them in Travis county when about 18 years of age, residing here continuously ever since. He was married in 1867 to Miss Polly Mussett: His father was sheriff of Travis county fifty years ago when A.

W. Terrell was district judge. He entered the Confederate army as a of the first company from this county, to be sent to Virginia, serving under Captain Carter and fought through to the surrender. The last years of the war he was in General Tom Green's brigade. For the past four years he has I been one of the watchmen at the capitol.

He was a good citizen, a loyal friend, devoted husband and a loving and indulgent father. A man of fine physique and a strong constitution the confinement of the last few months trying indeed to him, but when finally he was brought to realize that his strong body was wasting and death near he became resigned. He was conscious to the last and as he sat in his easy chair just before he died a sweet calm and beautiful peace come over his face and with a loving farewell look into the eyes of each of his children present he passed to the great beyond. Just an hour before he had expressed to a friend his readiness to die and his belief in a life everlasting. Surviving him are his widow and seven children and also a sister, Mrs.

Mary Rountree who lives near Bluff Springs. The remains will be interred in the state cemetery, the funeral to be held tomorrow. Mrs. Mary 'Reilly. Mrs.

Mary Reilly, aged 72 years, died in this city early yesterday morning. The remains were shipped by Undertaker Rosengren to Corsicana yesterday. Mrs. John Sellstrom. Mrs.

John Sellstrom, aged 24 years, died at her home in Manor early yes-. terday morning after a very short illness. The remains will be taken to Hutto for interment. She was of a prominent lumberman of Manor. FAMOUS RAJAH DEAD.

He Fell Over Precipice While in Flight. The Hague, Dec. 31 -The famous Rajah of Goa islands or Celebes. Dutch East Indies, who had for many years caused trouble the government authorities has been found dead in a ravine. A Dutch punitive force discovered the rajah's stronghold on Christmas day, but the chieftain fled with half a dozen followers.

During his flight the rajah and his companions fled a precipice into a ravine and the whole party were killed. REWARDS FOR BAD MEN. Vardaman Wants Negro and Three White Men of Kemper County. Jackson, Dec. Governor Vardaman today offered a reward of $250 for the negro, Tom Simpson, who participated in the Kemper county troubles by killing Constable O'Brien and also offers a reward of $250 for the three white men, Dan Kerr, Hal Byrd and Ernest Bryan, who killed the negro Calvin Nicholson and then burned his residence.

NEGRO SOLDIER CAUGHT. Investigation Disclosed Fellow Who Made Trouble at Leavenworth. Leavenworth, Dec. official investigation of the disturbance between a street car conductor and negro soldiers the night before Christ-. mas has been completed and it is learned that Private Stewart, Troop Ninth cavalry, threw bricks into the electric car.

Stewart will be courtmartialed. was no hesitation on the part of either the negroes or the white soldiers in telling they knew and the investigation developed that Stewart jumped through a window and threw bricks, although he not take part in the fight. Street Car Hit Loaded Wagon. Now Orleans, Dec. 31.

William Grant was killed and half a dozen other passengers on a Tulane street car were injured tonight in a collision between the and a wagon loaded with piles. The car crashed into the wagon on a dark street. The motorman and driver were arrested. Strawberry Shipments. Houston, Dec.

The day bids' fair to be very fine, the track is reported in splendid condition and fast and it is expected that the sport this afternoon will prove unusually good, Jim Martin starter and Forest Beaty in the pudges' stand. Running Races Fair Grounds. New Orleans, Dec.

Three jockeys fell with their mounts and two of them were somewhat seriously injured during the third race at the Fair Grounds today. At the three pole, Expect to See fell, knocking Jockey D.
