Inquiries are daily pouring in to the secretary of the executive committee from fire companies all over the state, asking interpretation of different sections of the rules as promulgated by the committee. The companies are practicing hard, and want to be sure they construe the rules correctly, hence the Inquiries. They are ail after the big J300.00 first prize, which some outside company will walk off with, as the Austin companies are barred from participating in this race. Those not winning the first prize need not feel disconsolate, as there is a second prize of $150.00 and a third prize of $75.00, as also other large money prizes in other events.

There Is another race in which the outside companies may measure lances with the Austin companies. This will be one of the most interesting of the contests. The teams are to run 300 yards to hydrant, connect to same, run 100 yards to ladder already in position, scale same and throw water over top round from end of nozzle held not less than six inches above top round. Here is here the fun comes in. While the men are scaling the ladder and are partly up, the nozzle man in the the man at the hydrant turns on the water, thinking that by the time it reaches the nozzle the men will be at the top of the ladder.

But the hydrant man has probably gotten a little rattled and turned the water on too soon. The result Is, the water with full pressure has reached the ladder men before they were at the top; the nozzle swipes the men off the ladder as if they were, straws. Leave Llano 12:30 p. m.
