The cost of sending the delegation this morning in the pastor's study ot candidacy of Mr. Williams. Assuming that he is a good citizen, his abilities and qualification for the office are practically unknown to the people of Texas; his tendencies, his views, his disposition, his manner of thought are all largely a matter of conjecture and speculation. None of us know what he would do, nor what he could do, for that matter, if he were elected. What influences are behind his candidacy? What Interests are sheltering themselves behind his race? There are certain interests in Texas which are always interested In political reaction and in the policy of "do nothing," and which are always offended at reforms which have for their purpose to make these Interests conform to law and bear their just proportion of the burdens of government, are taking advantage of Mr.

Williams' candidacy, and under the attractive cry1 of "fewer laws and better laws" are really seeking to have Texas to take the back track and put itself out of line with the laws enacted by Governor Hogg and Governor Campbell and the policies advocated by Bryan and the real democracy of the country. Can we, through any sudden impulse, afford to- align ourselves with a movement which may result disastrously to our state and to our party? Much of the criticism of Governor Campbell grows out of the disappointment of the people at his failure to take on the Bailey issue. No matter what we may think his course ought to have been in that matter, we ought not, and can not afford, to let (i tn the Dallas convention cost the Aus Everybody cordially invited to come 1 tin lodge quite a pretty penny.
