The other roads which are yet to be reported for are minor ones, comparatively. Freight Earnings The freight earnings for the thirty-nine companies an- ounted to $28,568,022.25. as against 128,422,250.08 for tl.e preceding year, an ircrease of $445,772.17, though eighteen of them showed decreases instead of increases.

The greatest increases were as follows; Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway, Texas and Pacific Railway (in Texas). San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway, Houston, East and West Texas Railway, $51,766.61. No other road increased more than $50,000, but three decreased more than that amount, viz: Houston and Texas Central Railroad, Fort Worth and Rio Grar.de Railway, St. Louis Southwestern Railway of Texas, $67,370.30. A different term, passenger earnings, includes receipts for carrying not only passengers but United States mail, express matter and some other items. Four of the companies which have so far reported carried no paying passengers. The passenger revenue of the remaining thirty-five companies was against for the year ending June 30, 1899, an increase of $747,412.06, which was shared in by all except five of them and the aggregate decrease for those five companies was less than $9000.
