in An Excellent Combina 0. The game was far from being an interesting exhibition of football prowess, tor during various stages of the contest some of the rankest kind of playing was manifested. It was witnessed by about 1500 spectators. In point of speed, strength, physical condition and general football knowledge, the "Varsity excelled, but the superiority was not Bufflc-ient to mark the winners as anything like a team that is going to do worlds for the L'nl- MrtJiEY TO LOAN We are prepared Ths pleasant method and ben -it' to ake farm loan on the bewt term ffered In the atate. The oval was then put down at Houston's forty-five-yard line. A moment later it was passed to Eikel. who promptly fumbled and fell on the ball. It was the third down, with six yards to gain. The signal for a punt was given and Drousedow fell back to perform the work.

He kicked for twenty-five yards, when it was caught by Thrasher. It was 'Varsity's ball on her own forty-five-yard line. At this juncture of the contest everybody was on the point of extreme expectancy to see just what sort of ability 'Varsity would manifest in advancing the pigskin. Leslie was given the ball for a plunge through center, which netted him four yards. C.

Brown followed with one yard out of the same place. Thrasher was again passed the oval, and took three yards out of right tackle. Leslie encircled left end for five yards. C. Brown got two yards In the same place.

The first attempt to run the line was attempted when McMahon (captain) endeavored to get around left end. His attempt proved a failure, for he was beautifully tackled behind the line by DeLesden-ier. with the ball on the forty-yard line. Thrasher was signalled to go through center. By a hard mass-play he succeeded la taking seven yards.

Brown went around right tackle for one yard. Leslie hit the line with the fury of a locomotive, taking four yards out of right tackle. McMahon was given the ball for a run around right end, and by a fine system of interference he advanced the ball ten yards. Leslie again got ten yards out of left tackle. C.

Brown hit' right tackle for two yards, and a moment later Leslie took ten yards out of right tackle, which showed marked evidence BUSINESS CHANCES. is the one perfect i i s. Time and time again the 'Varsity backs plunged through the visitors' line for long gains, and at various stages of the game it looked as if the Houston lads were unable to withstand these fierce rushes. Leslie, right half for 'Varsity, performed the best work of the day, and his cool heaaedness all through the struggle convinced present of the fact that he is a football artist of the first water. He was in almost every play, took prominent part in the scrimmages and did commendable work as a tackle. He manifested unerring judgment In stopping his man, which he frequently did with a great loss to the runner. McMahon (captain) also performed good work, and as right tackle he got in several long runs.

and in that way frequently stopped what would have proven to be good gains. If Coach Thompson Intends to defeat Missouri or any other good, strong team, he will have to get a hustle on himself and make the 'Vasity perform similar work. At various stages of the game he manifested rude offlciousness, which placed him in bad repute. By far the best work performed by the visitors was done by DeLesdlnier and Drousedow. The latter played with a high fever which seriously handicapped him from playing up to his usual high standard.

DeLesdlnier showed himself equal if not superior to any player on the 'Varsity. Eikel, who played quarter for the Houston team, while light, proved himself an aggressive player. He was there at all times and made some of the hardest tackles in the contest. A short time before the end of the first half, Drousedow was injured and had to leave the game. He objected strenuously to this, but was finally induced to quit.

DETAILS OF THE GAME. Texas went into the game with the full determination of piling up a big score. In this they were disappointed, for they did not have the easy thing they had looked for. The Houston boys were the first on the grounds. They came in a large wagonette and when they entered the grounds they were greeted with loud apjdause.

A few minutes afterwards the 'Varsity came running on the field. Their arrival was made the occasion of the usual college yell, in which student, spectator and his fair companion took part. The usual preliminary work was pe formed by both teams in passing and kicking the ball. Some time was devoted to light practice work. The captains of both teams held a short consultation as to the length of the halves.

They finally agreed to play twenty minutes in the first half and fifteen minutes in the second. Houston won the toss and chose the south goal, from which direction a strong wind was blowing. Texas was given the ball. The players of both teams assumed their regular positions preparatory to the kick-off. printed on the front of every pttcf STORE FIXTURES ie CALIFORNIA FIG SYRUPS GET our prices on billiard and pool table bofore buying eWewnere; SAW FKAir CISCO.
