*ttf PERSONALITY ^^ PLUS By ROBIN ADAMS SLOAN Fergus Falls (MB.) joirnl Fri., My. 8,1974 3 Candidacy announced ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A state senator from Duluih has become the seventh candidate to seek DFL endorsement to succeed retiring Rep. John Blatnik, D-Minn. Sen. A: The fantastic Israeli will soon have a book published about him by Dr. Andrew Puharich, his mentor for the past four years and the man responsible for the long series of investigations into Geller's strange powers by a team of scientists at Stanford University. Puharich is a medical doctor and parapsychologist who authored "The Newman-Woodward: Better Jagger and Binaca: Still Wynberg: "Jilted" story, closer? Rolling. maybe. Sacred Mushroom." The book on Geller will deal with conversations both Geller and Puharich claim to have had in the Israeli desert with visitors from outer space. WARNING OF THE WEEK: We think Paul Newman ought to stick close to home these days. Wife Joanne Woodward is currently rehearsing for a play with British actor Robert Shaw (he took actress Mary Ure away from playwright John Osborne) and at a recent rehearsal he seemed absolutely mesmerized by Joanne. Q: Are Mick Jagger and Binaca getting a divorce? — P.E., Boston, Mass. A: Not that we know of. The rock star head of The Rollins Stones and his South American wife have just spent a happy sun-drenched holiday together in the Caribbean at a home fit for a princess. (In fact, it was the home of a princess- Princess Margaret's house, on an island in the Grenadines.) KISS AND TELL? Guess who is being begged to write a book of memoirs about his recent romance? None other than California used car salesman Henri Wynberg who was jilted by Liz Taylor after six heady months in her company. Publishers and magazine editors are dangling juicy offers under Henri's nose and they might get results. It would make interesting reading. — especially for Richard Burton. Q: How much money does the average big casino in Las Vegas take in during a typical day? — J.K., Dallas, Tex. A: Carl Cohen, senior vice- president of MGM's new Grand Hotel, says their casino takes in about half a million dollars a day which explains why the Vegas niteries can afford to pay people like Frank Sinatra $250,000 a week to perform. Fighting reported in Middle East reports that Syria was planning an attack to heat up the Golan front in an effort to gain political ground during next week's Israeli-Syrian disengagement talks in Washington. The sources said the Damascus government wanted to launch a limited offensive to retake some territory captured by Israel in the October fighting. The alert on the heights helped solve Israel's five-week political crisis. Premier Golda Meir had been having trouble forming a new majority coalition government that included Defense Minister Moshe Dayan until intelligence reports filtered in from the heights. Dayan quickly changed his mind and told the premier he would continue his defense job. Mrs. Meir's new government will be presented to parliament Sunday morning. It commands support from 68 members of the 120-seat body. Barn, cattle are destroyed JEFFERS, Minn. (AP) - A barn and 40 head of cattle and calves were destroyed in a fire early today on the Earl Crowell farm 2'.4 miles south of Jeff ers. The cause of the 1 a.m. blaze was not immediately determined, Cottonwood County authorities said. By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Israeli and Syrian forces exchanged fire along the tense Golan Heights cease-fire line today amid reports that Damascus was threatening to reopen hostilities. The Israeli military command said the Syrians fired a number of antitank missiles at an Israeli patrol in the Tel Marai central sector, and the fire was returned. Washington had warned Israel that Syria was considering renewing the battle on the heights, the newspaper Maariv said. The Syrian army was in a "high state of readiness" and armed with many ground to ground missiles, the paper said. Israel's new minister of information, Shimon Peres, was quoted telling the paper that the "same informants that warned us on the eve of the Yom Kippur war" had tipped Israel off to the new Syrian move. It was not clear if Peres meant that Washington warned Israel on both these occasions. Israeli civilians on the Golan Heights were ordered to stand by to take to their shelters on an instant's notice. A number of Israeli air force planes were spotted overhead, the state radio said.
