Dessert Ad Cited The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus has challenged an ad for Royal Desserts.

The NAD challenged the claim by Standard Brands "You can't buy tastier desserts than Royal at any price." In requesting substantiation for the above claim, the advertiser advised NAD that the advertisement has been discontinued and there are no future plans for its use. The NAD handles investigative work for the advertising industry's self regulatory mechanism. It reviews and evaluates all challenges to the truth and accuracy of national advertising brought by outside sources or initiated by NAD as a result of its own monitoring of print and broadcast advertising. HELP! Q. When the Goodwill Industries returned the $5 checks which people sent for canning lids, they enclosed an envelope order form to obtain the lids from the Torque rite company.

It was mailed on Oct. 15 and my canceled check is stamped Oct. 21. G.A.D. A.

Marriet Machlis of Editon Packaging Corp. told us the lids had been sent as of Dec. 24. Later you confirmed that the lids arrived. HELP! Q.

About two months ago, I saw an ad in the local Pennysaver about addressing envelopes at home. On June 20 1 sent a money order for $7.56 for literature and a kit to be sent, so I could earn money at home. As of July 17 1 have not heard anything. I wrote a letter and have had no answers. The name of the company is Cottage Industries.

D.D., North Syracuse. A. We contacted Cottage Industries. Shortly after you wrote to us: "I received my package from Cottage Industries the second week of August. The ad stated that after I sent them $7 I would receive all the equipment necessary to start a mailing procedure.

When I received the package, they stated that I should send $5 more. This is not what the original ad stated." We contacted Cottage Industries again, and received instructions for you to return the kit for a refund. You did return the kit, and confirmed receipt of the refund check. The maintained that there is no request for additional money. FTC to Probe Citrus Fruit Industry The Federal Trade Commission has announced an investigation of the citrus fruit industry.

The purpose of the investigation is to determine the impact of agricultural cooperative associations and government marketing orders and agreements on the structure, conduct and performance of the industry. The nonpublic investigation wilt be conducted by the Bureaus of Competition and Economics. The existence of an investigation does not imply that law violations have occurred. HELP! Q. In August I had my children's picture taken in Sears.

For the price of $3.47 I was to get an 8 by 10 and a gold charm. In September I received a notice to return to Sears to select any pictures I wanted. But the whole family was sick so I couldn't make it to Sears. Shortly after that I received a form letter and the gold charm. The letter told me to select Pose A or Pose and they would forward my 8 by 10.

However, the charm has a large white spot in the middle of it. I wrote to tell them I was very dissatisfied with the charm. Could they send me a 5 by 7 to replace the charm? The additional 5 by 7s were $5.95 as were additional charms. In response to my letter, I received another form saying if I would send back the charm they would send my 8 by 10 plus a suitable replacement. Today I received my 8 by 10 in the mail along with my charm the very same charm I had to begin with.

L.S., Syracuse. A. Sharon A. Wellen of the customer relations department wrote to you: "We sincerely regret that the charm you received was not of the quality you expected. "Therefore, we are pleased to inform you that we are currently processing a new charm for you, and you may expect delivery within 21 days." You confirmed receipt of the charm, but this had a large flake of metal over the picture and under the plastic.

A third charm came with the right picture, but with a large gash on the frame. "I returned the second and third charms and shortly before Christmas received a lovely picture, nicely mounted in a perfect frame." HELP! Q. I'm writing to you in search of people. Free Pamphlet Available Israelis Prodded By Ford WASHINGTON (AP) President Ford opened talks Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin by underscoring the administration's determination to have "steady progress" toward peace in the Middle East. Welcoming Rabin to. the White House, Ford said Israel must show greater determination than ever to help bring realism and justice to the area. Later, at a State Department luncheon, Rabin said Israel was prepared to make "many concessions" for peace provided it is militarily strong.

"I know one thing for sure," Rabin said. "With a weak Israel no one will negotiate and only a strong Israel is a help for peace." Rabin's statement followed disclosures that the administration plans to cut almost $500 million in 1977 from current levels of U.S. military and economic aid to Israel. In late afternoon, Rabin held an unannounced meeting with William E. Colby, the outgoing director of the Central Intelligence Agency and George Bush, his successor, on the subject of Israeli defense needs.

It was learned that Rabin attempted to convince Colby and Bush that CIA assessments about Israel's strength were pegged too low because of erroneous assumptions. Ra bin reportedly told them that insufficient consideration had been given to increased arms aid flowing to the Arab states from both Western countries and Communist governme The State Department defended the reduction, saying the $1.8 billion planned for fiscal 1977 was "more in line with what it's been in the past" than the $2.25 billion requested for this year. "There is a finite number of resources available in any particular period," said Robert Funseth, the spokesman. Knox March Comes to Soggy End CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) The 166 mile re enactment of Col.

Henry Knox' historic march 200 years ago came to a soggy end Tuesday as 33 marchers arrived on a rain drenched Cambridge Common. During their 18 days on the trail trom Altord, Mass. the New York state line, the colonial garbed marchers ran into blizzards and tempera tures that dipped well below zero but this is the worst, said William Wilbur of Hub bardston, who portrayed Knox. The re enactment was of a relatively little known expedition during the winter of 1775 76 in which a band of New York and Massachusetts farmers brought tons of cannon from Fort Ticonderoga to Gen. George Washington's headquarters in Cambridge.

Wilbur, a 26 year old machinist, who bears a passing resemblance to portraits of Knox, explained that the cannon brought by the original marchers were responsible for saving the city of Boston. The ammunition was eventually used to capture and fortify Dorchester Heights, thus threatening the British fleet and troops stationed in Boston. On March 17, 1776, after one unsuccessful attempt to dislodge the colonials, the British evacuated Boston. The Knox March re enactment actually began in December at Fort Ticonderoga in New York, where five men took charge of the cannon, moving them on pontoon boats down Lake George and across the Hudson. The rag tag bunch that arrived in Cambridge Tuesday complete with their teams of horses and oxen had been hosted along the route by city and town bicentennial commissions, often spending the night in barns.

Despite the rain and the blizzards, the ice and the snow, Wilbur, dye from his black tri cornered hat streaking his face, said he'd do it all Mail subscription ram for Now York Daily 'l yr. 6 mo. 3 1 mo. Paper. $39.00 $19.50 W.75 13.25 Postage.

Carey signed an executive order Tuesday extending the scope of special state prosecutor Maurice Nadjari's investigation to include allegations of the sale of judgeships in Bronx County. Noting that he was acting at the request of State Atty. Gen.

Louis J. Lefkowitz, Carey said, "now the final responsibility for this investigation and ultimate, successful prosecution rests with the attorney general himself," Earlier in the day, Lefkowitz had rebuffed the governor's request that he review the "bona fides" of Nadjari's investigation. In a letter to the governor, Lefkowitz said, "I have no reason to question the bona fides of the investigation." A statement issued by Carey's press office said, "I must say that I am surprised that the attorney general has indicated such complete disinterest in the basic course of the investigation by his deputy during this period." "I would hope that more diligent attention would be paid to his deputy's work in the remaining time, until July 1, when he will be terminated as the attorney general pledged publicly on Jan. 5," Carey said. Nadjari has accused state Democratic Chairman Patrick J1.

Cunningham, a Carey friend and adviser, of being "the principal at the center of the corrupt market place" of judgeships in the Bronx. On Jan. 9, after weeks of maneuvering and bickering between the governor and Nadjari, Carey indicated he would sign an executive order expanding the special prosecutor's authority to pursue the probe as soon as Nadjari and Bronx Dist. Atty. Mario Merola agreed on its scope.

This they did in letters sent to the governor's office on Jan. 13 and 14. But Monday, citing what he called a reservation in a letter from Merola, Carey concluded that he could sign the superseding order only if the merit of Nadjari's investigation could first be established. He asked Lefkowitz to make this determination, he said, because Nadjari had accused him of trying to cut short the probe for political reasons. But in his letter Tuesday, Lefkowitz said, "Nothing has come to my attention to alter the opinion I expressed in my letter to you dated Jan.

9, that it would be lawful and proper for vou to amend the order. "1 am of the further opinion that issuance of the jointly requested amendment would not affect the legality of the prose cution resulting from the investigation." Teachers Vote (Concluded from Page 1) whelming feeling that we do need to remain united with the state organization." Mrs. Carter said many locals across the state will conduct referendums to bind their delegates to the representative assembly to the decision of the local on the pullout question. Syracuse teachers will vote next week. One of the major reasons for the rift between NYSUT and the NEA is the "NEA in New York" project, a multimillion dollar public relations campaign to improve the NEA's image in the state.

NYSUT leaders, however, view the project as an NEA plan to create a new base in New York State to undermine NYSUT's affiliation and relationships with local teacher unions. Nationwide, the NEA, independent of organized labor, has 1.7 million members. The AFT, affiliated with the AFL CIO, has 465,000 members. Albert Shanker, executive vice president of NYSUT. is president of AFT.
