NEWS & VIEWS Readers relate to Dole Thanks for the interview with former Sen. Bob Dole ("Straight Talk," April 4-6). Dole is a role model who has encouraged me to keep up with our political system and where it is taking us. Kevin Tiller, Camden, N.C. Seeing Dole with his 14-year-old miniature schnauzer, Leader, completely changed my opinion of him. 1 also had a 14-year-old miniature schnauzer, who died. The picture seemed to soften Dole. If I had thought of him as a more personable person, I would have voted for him. Don't restrict Indian gaming Reading the April 4-6 article "Trading souls for money," I couldn't help but wonder why anyone would want the government to restrict Indian gaming. Maybe because now there is a way for American Indians to stop relying on the government? It was the government that made the laws giving Indian casinos tax-exempt status — and it was the government that put Indians on reservations to start with. Lois J.
