He who imagines that Jay Gould has come hore to Invest ten or twelve millions of dollars for fun, mistakes the man and his purposes.

His Interests are In St. Louis and New York, and these roads which he controls will contribute to those two places, and our State Is only a tributary to those interests. Some men think Kausas City will profit largely by this new move on the railroad But Kansas City is in opposition to St. Louis, and favorable to Chicago. Gould is opposed to Chicago and favorable to St.

Louis, and therefore Konsas City will find a hard master In Gould. Boston men aud Boston capitalists are largely lutorestsd In Kausas City, Mo.ud Kansas City, Kansas. These Boston men 'are also interested In Chicago, therefore Jay Gould is In opposition to them. But there is one thing concerning these Boston men, about which every Kansau feels a pride. They have built railroads for Kansas, and to inspire State pride and to awaken State interest, they have Interested citizens of the State in their enterprises.

They have built up Kansas towns. The Atchison, Topeka aud Santa Fe railroad will make of Topeka, for this State, what Indianapolis is to Indiana. That road is the only bona fide Kansas road In this State, and the managers of the road are Kansans, imbued with Stato pride. The best friend Kansas ever had among all her railroad men is William B. All the other ruilroads are moved only by (he Iron hand of power, but Mr. Strong Is always moved by a scuso of justice. It is this Kansas road and these Kansas men that those who are petting Jay Gould, are aiding to pull down. They will see it only, perhaps, when II is too late. met Capt.
