Owing to a leakage in the old reservoir, and the shortage of the water supply, patrons of the service are requested to be as careful as possible and not let water run to waste. A few days hence will witness the completion of the new reservoir, when there will be plenty of water for everybody, enough and to spare. John T. Time seems to have dealt very kindly with and his good ife. George Fickett, ho has been in the employ of the Grand Trunk Railway Company for nearly half a century, and for upwards of twenty years conductor on the local mail train between island Pond and Portland, has resigned. The traveling public will greatly miss this courteous and popular official, who ever had a kindly smile and greeting for all with whom he came in contact, and all will hope that he may enjoy many rest ful years. He is succeeded by Charles Pratt, ho has resigned the through run. Portland to Montreal, and the latter train will be tal en by our townsman Archie Letarte, both capable and effi cient railroad men.

The sensational rural comedy dram "Joshua Simpkins," will be produced at the opera house Friday night, August Jo. The play contains an interesting and intelligible plot, but it is not allowed to interfere with the fun, which is said to be in abundance. During the run of the play some startling scenes and situa tions are seen, the principal of which is said to be the country sawmill, in the third act, in complete operation, cuttin through at great speed a real log upon which a human being has been helpless ly bound by his enemies and left to an evident death, but saved by the timely arrival of Uncle Josh. An excellent band and orchestra accompany this attraction. The band will parade at noon, wheu some good music may be looked for, all heintr dressed as farmers.

The friends of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Moifett will sympathize with them in their great affliction, the death Tuesday night of one of their twin sons. David A. Hay lies went to Colebrook Wednesday to spend several days with friends there and at Pittsburg.

Mrs. George A. llaynes is also visiting at Colebrook. Martin Ladd and Lucius C. Mc-Kenney are in Hurlingtoii, attending the annual session of the grand lodge, Knights of Pythias, which convened Wednesday.

A number of friends assembled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Sadleir Tuesday night to witness the blossoming of a night blooming cereus.

It was a sight well worth seeing. Miss Emma Stone of Rutland is a visitor in town. Her father, Dimond Stone, was proprietor of the Island Pond 1 louse during the seventies. There is very little here that is familiar to her. The Rev.

The tire alarm was sounded shortly after 7 o'clock this Thursday morning, hut the last note of the alarm was immediately succeeded by the all out signal.

An oil stove at the canning factory ignited, and was promptly squelched hy the employees. "Joshua Simpkins," a story of farm life, will be seen at the opera house on Friday evening of this week. It is said to abound in novel features, wonderful mechanical effects, excellent singing ami dancing and plenty of refined wholesome fun, and brings to light in third act a real sawmill in full operation, which is claimed to be the most realistic stage effect ever produced. Between the acts a high class orchestra renders some txcelleut music, and also aids in the introduction of many pleasing singing and dancing specialties during the progress of the play. The fine band earned by the company will make a burlesque street parade at noon.

Secure your reserved seats now, at Thurston's. All schools in town commence the fall term Tuesday, September 5. The principal for the high school is Clarence II. Willey, whose last school was at llardwick, a man well recommended for the position. His assistant, Edna M.

Spurr, of Lynn, also comes to Island Pond highly recommended. The teachers in the other grades are Grades and 8, Charlotte Thurston Grades 5 and 0, Ella Moore; Grades 3 and 4, Sarah Patterson Grades 1 and 2, Maude LeBourveau Pleasant street Mabel Lalloche. The teachers in the district schools are Head of Pond, Ethel Smith; Nicholson District, Melissa Moore Bemis District, Emma Patter son Iron Undue, Monetise nam fcast Brighton, Iva French Hunter District, Ethel Lougee. On the whole the town has a pretty good staff of instructors. Y.

M. C. A. NOTES. The social given last Friday night by the Woman's Auxiliary was, doubtless, the most successful, from every standpoint, of any they have yet given.

About 123 gathered to listen to the excellent musical programme presented, to partake of the ice cream and cake provided, as also to make the best possible use of the social side of their nature. The gathering was pronounced by all to have been a splendid success, and a handsome sum was realized by the ladies. A. W. Bosworth and night assistant D.

J. Bean left this Thursday morning for Silver Bay, N. to attend an insti tute of the Railroad Y. M. C.

Reavey is putting a new- stone foundation under his grist mill. The East St. Johnsbury baseball team came up and played our boys a game hist Saturday afternoon, and at the end of the game the score stood 1'2 to in favor of the home team. A gang of carpenters commenced work on the new town house last week Tuesday. The building is to be GO 40 feet on the ground, and two stories with basement. Landlord C. E. Shaw has his rooms all full, and several beds set up in the hall, which are occupied by the telephone gang.

Wymaii and Ralph Ilulibard were quite ill the first of the week. Neal Beattie returned to his school in Bradford Wednesday. Miss Mary Webb passed away at the home of her brother, George Webb, last week Tuesday morning. Miss Webb had been in poor health for a long time. The funeral services were held at the house Wednesday.

Much sympathy is extended. Sherbrooke Fair. The evening attractions at this great fair promise to be more elaborate than ever. The following great specialties will appear in addition to the regular acts The three Madcaps and the Althea Twin Sisters, acrobatic dancers and grotesque comedians M'lle Rialto, the marvelous fire and mirror dancer; the Silrd Regiment in their celebrated phy sical drill. The fireworks will be the finest display ever seen in the Townships, concluding with the great scenic piece, "The battle of Trafalgar." In addition to the Regiment, Harnionie and North Hatley Bands, others from distance are being arranged for.

An interesting exhibit will be that of Mr. B. C. Howard's live moose. They will be on view in a specially erected yard at the north end of the grounds.

Entries in a classes are coming in rapidly and are in excess of last year. The race track is in first class shape, and a large field of horses is looked for.
