Orleans County rliislcal Festival. The 40th annual festival of the Orleans County Musical Association is to be held at Newport, Jan. 29th to Feb. 2. Prof.

Jules Jordan, of Providence, R. is to be the conductor, and a notable array of names appears on the list of artists. There will be a full quartette, consisting of Mrs. Carrie Doty Spooner, of Xewport, R. soprano; Miss Jennie Hunter, of Providence, con tralto; Frederick Smith, tenor, and Fred L.

Martin, basso, both of Boston Miss Annie Green, Newport, pianist, and Miss Lucia Mead Priest, reader. Bird's Orchestra of Boston, will also be in attendance at the promenade, and the four grand concerts. Xo pains have been spared to make this thi best festival the Association ever had. West Concord. Mr. Ira Quimby, died at his home in Kirby, the 13th inst. He was the only son of the late Dun iel (juiiuby of this place. His mother, and sister Mrs.

Charles Owen survive him, who with his wife and four children have the deep sympathy of many friends in this their former home. Funeral services were hold by the pastor of the I'liiversalist Church, Rev. Mr. Quimby. The interment under Masonic auspices took place at East St.

An admission fee will lie charged for the entertainment and sup per, but the installation exercises will be free. S. T. Dunn gave a very interesting report of the Essex County Sunday School Convention. The Guildhall Orchestra will give an entertainment, assisted by Miss Bessie Dodge of Lunenburg anil others, at the Grange hall, on Thursday, January 23. The proceeds are to lie for the lieuetit of the Congregational Church.

Joseph I'elkey has moved into the tenement lately vacated by Milo A. Elliott, lie does blacksinithing for Frank Hall. Miss Gertrude Phillips of Lyndonville has been engaged to teach the Essex County Grammar School. She has taught here before. Setli Meatdmm finished husking corn for Richard Beattie last Monday.

Lemington and South Canaan. John Harris celebrated his 87th birthday last Saturday by inviting to his home a few of his relatives and friends. Miss Helen Booth of Maidstone is now teaching on Sims Dill. Frank Cook is appointed administrator of the estate of Pliny Meacham and is carrying on the Inniliering operations in which Meacham was engaged when stricken with fatal illness. Westmore.

The town vs. School District Xo. 2 had a town meeting the 2Mh. and there was a very lively time, but when the vote was taken to see if the town would vote to pay the debt incurred to repair the school house hi 1x74 the district with the help of a number of the town carried the day, and it is hoped that some of the very wise ones who want so much law ill now call a halt. Mrs. Walworth is a charming writer and her name stands high. It is not often we are able to secure a story which we can commend so unhesitatingly.

We trust all our readers will enjoy it to the full. Watch for the First Chapters There will lie a social dance at the opera hall Friday evening of this week. Dancing to commence at 8.30 sharp ami continue until 12. Sadleir's orchestra will furnish music. For a short time, evangelistic services will lie held at the Methodist Church on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Geo L. Clark, P. M. The union meetings which have been held during the past two weeks by the Congregational and Methodist Churches were. brought to a close with an interesting and well attended service at the Congregational Church last Sunday evening.

The meetings were successful throughout ami were very helpful to'! those participating in them. John Custer came here last Monday on the express from Canada so helplessly drunk that lie was arrested bv constable Randall and placed in the '-Peter" to sober off. Tuesday liefore justice Parsons he pleaded guilty and was fined and 7.01 costs, and unable to pay he as condemned to 20 days imprisonment in the county jail at Guildhall, whither lie was escorted by deputy sheriff Davis Wednes day morning. SILVER WEDDIN0. A number of friends and neighbors, well laden with good things, happily and pleasantly surprised Mr.

and Mrs. A. C. Xeedhain at their home last Thursday evening the 18th in honor of the 2oth anniversary of their marriage. The evening was spent in congratulations, social intercourse and interchange of reminiscences of pleasant experiences, followed by refreshments, making the gathering one long to be remembered by those present.

Sorrow filled the hearts of many when the news spread around the village last Friday morning that little Robbie Wing was dead. His death occurred just after midnight. Though little hopes of his recovery were entertained during his long aiid painful illness, borne with such marvelous patience, yet his death was a great shock to his parents and friends. He was a bright, intelligent little boy, with a kind and cheerful disposition that won the affection and good will of all his playmates. Funeral services were held at his late home at F.ast Brighton last Sunday, conducted by Kev.
