National fiwr irst WBahk James Berry Asks AnotherTerm As LI Governor JAMES BERRY SEw v' '18 7 9 9M 9MH9 Jawh Lieutenant Governor James Berry is now finishing his fifth term in this office and during his entire term of service to the State he has always cooperated to the fullest extent with the chief execu tive His record of cooperation is so well known that our Governors have never hesitated to leave the state whenever it became neces sary for them to do so Lieutenant Governor Berry has served as acting Governor of Okla homa on many occasions during which times he has transacted the business connected with the Gover nor's office He has presided over meetings of the School Land Com mission the Welfare Commission issued many proclamations and has also made several important appointments The list includes appointment of District Judges Superior Court Judges and many other officers The Constitution of Oklahoma provides that the Lieutenant Gov ernor is also President of the Sen ate but he does not have a vote except in case of a tie Lieutenant Governor Berry has always been fair and impartial when presiding over the Senate and as a mark of appreciation during the last ses sion of the Legislature the Senate presented him with a beautiful plaque expressing affectionate ap preciation for his faithful service This plaque now hangs in Lieuten ant Governor Berry's office in the State Capitol Building Lieutenant Governor James Berry lives at 502 Duck Street Stillwater Okla He is married and has five children living three sons and two daughters He is a former student of Oklahoma College is affiliated with the Methodist Church a member of the Masonic bodies an overseas veteran of World War I and "re tired from the Army in 1940 as a Major Infantry He is past PostCommander of the American Le gion and a member of the veterans of oreign Wars He had four sons in World War II three of whom returned and two of his sons also served in Korea BEBEE NEWS By LORENE SCOTT There were
