The outlet will be the subject of an intensive study by teams of engineers and hydrologists from the State Health Department and the U. S. Geological Survey, according to the U.

S. Department of the Interior. A harmless red fluorescent dye will be released at several places along the 2 mile stretch of the channel between Auburn and the Seneca River. The release of the fye will begin riext week and ebntinue at intervals through the late fall. The dye will temporarily color short stretches of the waterway.

Although the dye will be seen for only a few hours, sensitive electronic instru- ments will be able to detect it. after it becomes invisible to the normal eye. Officials said it will not affect agricultural, commercial, recreational or municipal uses of the stream. Waste Unit RED CREEK The Cornstock Foods canning factory here is now constructing a new sewage treatment plant to take care of waste disposal from the operation of the food processing plant. In 1968, a pilot plant was put into operation at the site.

The data collected from the pilot plant, which has since been destroyed, has led the company engineers to'design the present plant. Chesters Engineers of Pittsburgh, working in Comstock engineers, designed the new plant. moving is being handled by a sub-contractor. The new sewage treatment plant will be a complete revamping of the waste disposal system. There will be a new screen house located close to the plant equipped with screens and pumps to separate the solids (cherry pits, discarded fruit) from liquid waste.

The liquid wastes will pumped to the smaller of four ponds where it will be treated to provide nutrients and pH adjustment on a 24- hour basis in a treatment facility while being pumped to the second pond. This pond on Baldwin Road will contain six large aerators to add oxygen to the treated liquid waste. This pond is so constructed that the waste will remain in this pond for a minimum of 14 days. Then the waste will be reduced to 90 per cent' of its original strength by bacterial action. The waste will then overflow into a third and finally a fourth pond where further reduction in strength will occur.

The fourth pond will contain a single aerator at the discharge for a final polishing before discharge to the creek. Ponds three and four will fill while a small volume of treated waste is discharged to the. creek. There will be constant monitoring of the creek flow and pond discharge, so as not to upset the required oxygen balance in the creek. There will be an added "benefit from the aeration, as it will practically eliminate the odor of past years.

Although final construction will not be completed until fall, the essential parts of the system are expected to be operational before the cherry season.
