party under a democratic setup What chance then would any rightist opposition have had to overthrow the Communists? Why did the Reds have to act in i A more logical and accepted explanation of the coup is that the Communists in spite of their ma Jorlty had little faith in and less liking for the Czech elections that were scheduled for this spring They had played at democracy long enough So they reverted to type Mr Wallace should produce if he can that In flammatory statement Mr Stelnahrdt to prove his fantastic white wash of the Communists Even if he can he will find it hard to show American influ ence In affairs to match the public acknowledgment of Russia's help That acknowledgment comes from Antonin Gregor new Communist Minister of or eign Trade To a delegation of trade union repres entatives he said must thank our Slav allies and mainly the: Soviet Union tor the fact that we succeeded in overcoming all obstacles In reaction" 1 Minister Gregor may be a little out of the Wallace oster line We do not think of line with the facts Rites Help! or Mrs Durham 85 CEMENT March (Special) services for Mrs Louisa Durham 85 former Lawton resi dent who died here Monday were conducted Thursday afternoon at the Wilson Baptist church Bur ial was in the family plot in the Norman cemetery Mrs Durham formerly lived with her son Pfeffer at 812 Gore Lawton "before moving to her home In Wilson in 1946 In addi tion to other survivors previously announced Mrs Durham is sur vived by a sonr Edward Pfeffer Britton 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren Attending final rites from Law ton were Mrs A Stringer 1314 Elm Mr and Mrs Cecil Baker 1135 Maple Mrs 108 ifth Hodges and Mr and Mrs Joe Musgrove 507 Washington you may begin with just ew pieces bnt yovU want the finest As birthdays and anniversaries roll around be surprised how soon set will be complete Come in soon and see our exquisite Sterling patterns or International lives up to your dreams its weight of solid silver its hand finished workmanship its rest of your hfe value: And hear this welcome news: Prices on famous International Sterling have not been raised! The President keeps copy number one in his top desk drawer This is the book which Mr Truman held up for reporters to see at a recent press con ference hen he wanted to show how the cost of living had copy is a Charts In the book are revised monthly While one copy is being brought up to date the floater Is substituted so no holder will ever be without his book "The Budget in was originally prepar ed by Bureau of the Budget to deal with government finances only Then a few charts on general business conditions were included Then Budget Bureau be gan duplicating a cheap reprint of the general econ omic charts for wider circulation '8 When Council of Economic 'Advisers was created year and a half ago it found a need for condensing the really important figures from the mountains and mazes of government statistics In the Presi dents January and June Economic Reports to Con jugress a number of supporting tables were included They backed up conclusions in the reports and show ed business trends The trouble was that these data were made avail able only twice year The need 'was for quick monthly summaries' Out of this grew the idea for the "Economic series without interpretation is a southeast of Sterling where he lived on his farm until his retire ment in 1944 and moved into the town of Sterling He then trans ferred his membership to the Ster ling Methodist church Because of ill health he did not attend church services but was a member of the home department of the Sunday school and always welcomed the visitations of his pastor Despite ill health he was very strong and that country A statement by Mr encouraged a "rightist which is what Mr' Wallace calls the resignation of Communist cabinet members before the crisis Thus according to Mr Wallace the Communists acted only in self defense He is indebted for that remarkable discovery to a source of information not unfamiliar to him Shortly after the coup William oster national chairman of the Communist Party wrote in the Daily Worker that Czech Reds had smashed a Wall Street plot hatched by Mr Steinhardt Mr Wallace did not elaborate much on his charge which was made at a press conference Instead when reporters pressed him for more details he walked but abruptly "to catch a Perhaps if he had stayed he might have explained his defini tion of a and what hope of success a coup by Czech rights would have had Before the crisis the Czech Communists and the Socialists who usually voted with them had a bare majority of 151 seats in the 300 seat parliament But that does not mean that the other 149 were held by reactionaries Included in the minority were the National Socialists the second largest par f' ty This was the party of Eduard Benes before he became president "A In accepting the Communist ultimatum Dr Benes said: "It is clear to me that socialism is a way of life desired by an overwhelming part of our nation At the same time I believe that with socialism a cer tain measure of freedom and unity is possible and that these are vital principles to all in our national Let us look back again at some circumstances leading up to Mr It start ed when Interior Minister Nosek who controlled the police began demoting and transferring non Com munists and putting his own party men in all the K7 Key ports irst the parliament and then the cabinet canea on nim to answer for this allegedly political maneuver When he refused the non Communist cabinet members resigned At that time the Communists were the country's largest party They controlled the army as well as the police President Benes was not
