10 - Wed., May 5, 1965 Redlands Daily Facts Unemployment still too high WASHINGTON (UPI)—Commerce Secretary John T. Connor thinks that last month's seven-year unemployment low of 4.7 per cent is "still too liigh." Connor testified before the Senate Banliing and Currency Committee Tuesday in support of President Johnson's proposed Public Works and Economic Development Act. The legislation calls for a S250 million annual aid program for depressed areas. Commenting on the employment picture, Connor said the impressive continuing achievements of our total national economy only serve to highlight the chronic failure of many area and regional economies to share in our national prosperity. Cannons OK but guns, no PAINESVILLE, Ohio (UPI)— It's against the law to carry a concealed weapon, but Lake CJbunty sheriff's deputies found there isn't one against carrying a 172-pound cannon in a car. Gun collector Waller Ysel of Eastlake packed a Finnish- made antitank gun into his car Monday when he went to visit his wife at a hospital. Ysel said he was afraid someone would steal it if he left it at home. Deputies stopped him and confiscated the weapon, but could find no law against motor transport of a cannon. Ysel got his cannon back. SUSPECTS — A young Vietnamese girl is pull ed away from her father (foreground), a suspected Viet Cong guerrilla, by a Vietnamese marine after the family had been captured in Da Nang, South Viet Nam, along with ten other suspected Viet Cong rebels. The arrests came during a government operation to clear an area (six miles south of the air base) of Communist rebels.
