The 3rd annual Syracuse Tornado Open was won by Dr. Rawle Farley, a professor from Brockport Siate College, on tiebieak points over Bob Nasiff of Syracuse. Both finished with scores by drawing with each other in the final jound.

A total of 54 players competed in four sections. Winning their respective sections were: Reserve, Mike Lukacs of Utica (3-1), on tie-break points over three other players; Novice (Rated), Don Chandler Sr. of Ithaca, and Novice (Unrated), Matt O'Hara, a freshman at CBA, with the only 4-0 score of the tournament. Jim Gallagher, a Liverpool sophomore, was the Class winner in the Open section and finished third overall. Don Chandler finished second to his dad and won the Class trophy in the Novice (Rated) section.
