October 20, 1955 THE ADA WEEKLY NEWS Page Five Fun Night Is Scheduled At Ahloso School Ahloso Home Demonstration Club announces a Hallowe'en "Fun Night," sponsored by the club, to be held at the school Tuesday, Ocober 25. Bingo, a country store and a fishing pond for the children are a few the attractions scheduled. Proceeds will be applied on the purchase of the stage curtain for the school. Paying for this curtain has been a major project for the Ahloso club, and the women hope to complete the job by the end of this year. Everybody is cordially invited to attend.

UNION HILL By MRS. LAVONA JONES The Sunday School attendance was 51 Sunday morning, with all teachers present except the Primary class. Mrs. Loretta Kite was substitute teacher. Visitors Sunday morning were Mr.

and Mrs. Roy Bottoms and family of Ada. Allen Cochran was program leader Sunday 1 night. There were 39 for Training Union. Those taking part were Helen Cochran, Brenda and Richard Southerland, Barbara Jones, Don Newby, Yvonne Little and Judy Enloe.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Simpkins were missed at church Sunday night. Visitors Sunday night were Arch Neighbors of Oil Center, Dewayne Roberts, Kay Tilley and Larry Cunningham. Bobby Joe Adams had a virus this week and was unable to be at church.

REUNION REUNION A family reunion was held in the Leonard Archer home this weekend. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Archer, Bryan David, Mr. and Mrs.

Brown and children of Reno, Mr. and Mrs. Mac McCoy and children of Fort Worth. Louis Archer and Mr. Brown are in the Air Force and are being transferred to Florida.

Mrs. McCoy is the former Lois Archer. Union Hill 4-H Club held its regular meeting last Tuesday, with assistant county agents Miss Kozel and Mr. Steward present. A total of 15 members enrolled, and officers were elected for the coming year.

Officers are Dwayne McAnally, president; Ralph Teel, vice president: Junior Rhynes, treasurer; Paul Golden, reporter; Larry Archer, social chairman; and Benny Jones, song leader. A model meeting will be held next regular meeting. Mrs. Mildred Fitch. of.

Oklahoma City visited Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Garrett Monday.

Mrs. Fitch is cousin of Mrs. Etta Garrett and is a judge on the State Industrial Commission. She was in Ada holding court. Rev.

and Mrs. Frank Cunningham attended the Baptist revival at Vanoss last week. Mr. and Mrs. Bill McAnally and children, Duke Rhynes, Mr.

and Mrs. William Henson and Mr. and Mrs. J. W.

McAnally and children spent Sunday in Oklahoma City. The children were on the train at Lincoln Park when it was derailed. No one was hurt in the accident. Mr. and Mrs.

J. H. Copes and family visited Mr. and Mrs. C.

Davis home Saturday night and watched the new television John Davis has just purchased. Ruby Deaton and sister, Geneva Wimberly, took Geneva's fatherin-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wimberly, to Shawnee Thursday to visit relatives. Those visiting in the Bob Ross home Sunday afternoon were Mr.

Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Ozbirn visited in the Alvin Davis home Wednesday night. H. D.

Jones was also there to have John help him on planning the school bus route. Mrs. Bettie Parks was home by herself Friday and was so lonesome she just gathered up the quilt pieces that she was working on and went to visit Mrs. W. M.

Ross while she worked. Jewell Moore, who once lived in this community and now lives in Ada, had a severe heart attack Friday night. His friends here all wish him a speedy recovery. He is in Valley View Hospital. We are happy to have Mr.

and Mrs. Peet Cantrell move back in our community. James and Anitta Baker visited in the Bob Ross home Saturday afternoon. James is on the KTEN Ranch Hand program every Saturday night, The Ladies Bible Class met with Mrs. Lavona Deaton Thursday night.

The seventh chapter of Mark was studied and enjoyed by Ruby Deaton, Ethel Jones, Pauline Young, Bertha Sanders, Nora Ross, Edna Boren, Ann Ross, Virginia Jared, and the hostess, Lavona Deaton. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Mounger are remodeling their home inside and out. They are also enjoying electricity and natural gas now. The Seniors have ordered their jackets and are' expecting to receive them about Thanksgiving.

The girls ordered maroon and gold satin and the boys ordered maroon wool with white leather sleeves. New basketball suits have been ordered for both high school boys and girls and they hope to have them for the first home game. SELAH! Accidents Send Three to Hospital, Boy Loses Leg Three weekend accidents sent a trio of victims to Valley View Hospital for treatment and the condition of an Oct. 2 accident victim is reported satisfactory. Shirley Bottoms, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Bottoms.

Rt. 5, Ada, suffered a. compound fracture of both bones of her right leg. She fell in the Latta gymnasium Friday. Her condition is reported good.

Stephen Phelps, 2, son of Mr. and Mrs. J' B. Phelps, Rt. 6, Atoka, suffered a fractured left leg Sunday afternoon when he fell at home.

Melvin Dorough, 18, son of Mrs. Irene Dorough, North is recovering at Valley View Hospital following the amputation of his right leg below the knee. Dorough, a student at Horace Mann, was injured Oct. 2. when he attempted to put a double-barreled shotgun in the turtle-back of a car.

The gun was accidentally discharged. The lower right leg was amputated Saturday and his condition was satisfactory Tuesday morning. J. McDonald had another run of bad luck last Thursday? Whatever the cause, she had a large and painful spot of trouble that day. Turning north on the road at the Roy Lee Pharr corner, was topping the first rise when she saw a car approaching, rapidly on her side She honked and took for the ditch, but not in time to avoid a collision. The approaching driver said he did not see her car until too late to swerve. Both th cars were damaged to a considerable extent.

Both were covered by insurance. Mrs. McDonald and her ward, Charlie Hall, were shaken and and bruised but not seriously. Howard Satterfield of Wichita Falls, was given a ticket by the highway patrolman and his insurance company has agreed to repair Mrs. McDonald's car.

HEARD Sybil Collings, Daisy Binion and Lena can really sack those "when Cochran, the wind blows those trees around." Mr. and Mrs. Albert Simpkins are still improving. They were involved in a wreck last week. Both were released from Valley View Hospital.

Mr. Simpkins has a broken wrist and Mrs. Simpkins received a cut on her shoulder that had to have some stitches. They are feeling some better this week. Mr.

and Mrs. Lonnie Cassady visited Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cassady and girls of Ada Sunday. Mr.

and Mrs. Ray Hicks of Oklahoma City visited Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jones and Wayne Sunday morning. Those visiting Mr.

and Mrs. Bud Jones and family this weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Karl Tilley, Gerald and Carlton. Larry and Don Newby, Kay Tilley, Mrs.

Carline McNutt, Danny and Eddie Lynn, Mrs. Lela Richardson and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hicks of Nicoma, Park, W. J.

Jones and Delphia, and Yvonne Little. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rose visited Mr. and Mrs.

Mavis and Yvonne visited Mr. and Mrs. Dink Binion Sunday, LOVELADY NEWS By NORA ROSS 'Most everyone is real busy gathering pecans this week. We are fortunate in having a good pecan crop, since they are bringing a good price this year. There have been some reports of pecans being stolen, so each one should watch his pecan trees and report anyone caught.

The quilting bee Thursday was well attended. The ladies quilted a quilt for a sister of Mrs. Juanita Jones. Those quilting were Virginia Jared, Juanita Jones, Lavona Deaton. Nora Ross, Edna Boren, Ethel Jones, Parks, Pauline Young, Ross, Ann Ross Bettie, and Ruby Deaton.

We will not quilt next Thursday. We are serving the county men and others who care to come a good country dinner that day. Mrs. Ann Ross was honored with a pink and blue shower Thursday afternoon. Those bringing and sending gifts were Mesdames Virginia Jared, Juanita Jones, Sydney Ozbirn, Pat Taylor, Ruby Brannon, Ida Taylor, Lavona Deaton, A.

0. Davis, Nora Ross, W. M. Ross, Ethel Jones, Bertie Woodward, Edna Boren, and Miss Pauline Young. Refreshments of lemonade, cake and cookies were served by the hostess, Edna Boren.

Perry Don Ross. who is in the Navy and stationed in San Diego, is home on leave for 20 days. Billy Ross, who is in the Naval Hospital there was not able to get leave. But he called his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Bob Ross, Sunday night to report he was better and his doctor told him Saturday he thought he would soon be able to be back on duty. He has been in the hospital about four months, and 16 days of it was in Hawaii. Mr. and Mrs. A.

O. Davis have sample. The Brewington house sticks at. shaggy dog is Vacation Bible School. Cats and of James and Marzell Briggs and Gary.

Mr. and Mrs. James honored their son, Gary Don, with a party Sunday afternoon on his fourth birthday. Favors of balloons were given to each child. James Briggs, Gary's maternal grandmother, Mrs. Eva Stone, and his uncle, Cleamon Stone of Broxton. Barbara Kay Wilson, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Muriel Wilson, celebrated her third birthday October 13.

Mary Jo Wilson spent Sunday with Janie Lee. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Beller included Rev. and Mrs.

Muriel Wilson, Katie, Billy, Charles and Barbara, Mrs. Satterwhite of Oklahoma City and Eva Lois Matthews of. Francis. Mrs. P.

P. Corcamges and Clifford Fullen Sr. of Holdenville visited Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Fullen Jr.

and children on Tuesday. Mrs. Corcamges is an aunt of Cliff Jr. Mrs. Clifford Fullen Jr.

has received news of a new niece Sgt. and Mrs. Leroy Johnson are the parents of Bethany Diann, born October 3. She weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces. Mrs.

Johnson is the former Ella Hoggatt, well known in this community. The Johnsons now life in Yuma, where the sergeant is stationed. Bethany Diann is their first child. IN THERE FIGHTING Your correspondent is the very proud owner of a new sewing machine, as of last Thursday. For a gal who can't sew a straight seam this was quite a gift (in my opinion) for a husband to buy.

After all, there is no law against learning, and you should see some of the chings I've been making. Of course, nothing I've made is wearable but, oh, the determination behind 'each garment! If it only took determination and not skill 'I'd be one of the best. Sunday visitors of the Norvell Vandegiff family were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Skaggs and children.

Morrison of Lavern, has been visiting the Arters. Mr. Arter: has been on vacation, SO the three of them went to Brinkly, Ark. Mr. Arter was raised there, and hadn't been back in 40 years.
