It is found that leaers for the British Possessions in North America, as well as for oilier pin ts of the world, are still deposited in this Oiiice, without prepayment of the required postage to enable them to be lorwarded. This should be guarded against, as they otherwise remain over for the chances of a private conveyance. Transient newspapers, too, it will be recollected, cannot be maiied unless the postage is paid in advance. Finding it necessary to close the delivery windows, for the proper assort ment of the principal mails, as they arrive through the day, the public is notified that they are usually so dosed from quarter past 8 to from 2J to 3, and from 6 to a quarter before 7 o'clock. Persons desiring to prepay letters, however, will bear in mind, that the entrance at the door 011 Norlh street is at ail times open for that purpose.

A box may lie found at tlie same door for the deposite of letters which are too late ior the regular closing hour of tho Eastern mail, iz: from if to in the morning and from 7 to 7: o'clock in the evening. It is requesteil that, as far as convenient, after the Oiiice is shut, (at i before 8 o'clock in the evening, stamps be used for the prepayment of letters, otherwise a slip of paper, plaogd around the letter or newspaper requesting to be charged, will be attended to. Those who wish their letters taken by the carriers. Particularly families, residing in the outer sections of the city, should direct their correspondents carefully to superscribe the name of the street and number of the dwelling, and to avoid delay, should be prepared wu change to pay the carrier. Mcuy letters miscarry in the mails for want of a proper direction.

The right name of the Post Office, and of the State, should be written in full. a25-oo3t CHA RLES T. MA DP OX, P. M. HPO COUNTRY" MERCHANTS, PH SI I AN AND OTHERS.
