Rice. Roper W. Rice, who went from here a year and a half ago to the Knro Hattin Homes, met his death by heart failure while bathing last Thursday evening. Mr. Maynard, superintendent of the Homes, accompanied the body to this place on Friday.

He speaks of the death of Roger Rice as a great loss to the community of thirty-four boys, among whom be was universally loved and respected. The purity and nobleness of bis character not only made him the favorite of all, but one whose influence was exceedingly valued by those who have the institution in charge. He was in bis fourteenth year, the fourth son of Mrs. Leonora W. Rice of this place, a member of the Congregational church in Granby, where he was buried Saturday forenoon.

John Kimball died at bis borne in San Francisco on July 2, aged 65 years. Mr. Kimball was a native of Barton and the eon of J. H. Kimball and grandson of Judge John Kimball.

He lived in Barton until 1850 when he entered Dartmouth College from which institution be was graduated. He studied theology at the Union Theological seminary in New York and went to California in 1860. During the war be was chaplain of Carver hospital in Washington. He returned to California and preached for a time in San Francisco, Oakland and Grass Valley. For many years he was the editor of the Pacific, the organ of the Congregationalists on the Pacific coast.

He made this paper a most valuable religious journal, bringing to it ripe scholarship and a strong religious training. He was a member of the Congregational Club, superintendent for many years of the Sunday School, and occupied a conspicuous place as a religious teacher.
