FRIDAY, AUGUST 24, 1956. THE LOGANSPORT PRESS, LOGANSPORT, INDIANA Retail Sales In State During First Half Of Year Sets New Record BLOOMINGTON, Ind. W-Personal spending reached a new peak in the first half'of, 1956 in spite of. an auto slump, and new production and sates records are expected -with the advent of 1957 The Indiana University research bureau reported in its Indiana Business Review that retail sales ran slightly ahead of 1955 even in areas dependent upon the auto industry. It also reported "the whole economy hardly broke its stride" in spite of a month's loss of wages during the steel mill strike.

The review reported farm prices dropped slightly last month below 1955 levels, but predicted, "Good crop weather in Indiana, plus better prices, should improve farm income during the last half (of Construction activity fell off slightly, the bureau said, but only "little more the usual midsummer slackening." Delphi Douglass of Wolcott has been employed as principal of the Delphi school to the vacancy left by the resignation of Harold Dick who has accepted a position as superintendent at Kentland.
