Complaint is made of the manner in which the tret-prinkling wagon doe not lay th dust on West Pecan street in the vicinity of th City National bank. Yesterday morning a young man named M. Turner, a lunatic from Trinity county, who was being taken to the asylum, gave bis attendant the slip at the Orr hotel, where they stopped for breakfast. He made good hi escape, and np to a late hour last night had not been recaptured. The allianoe encampment commences at Marble Falls, on July 12.

A safe and profitable investment can be made in town lots, to be sold at that time. A visit and inspection of th site of this future city will convince the most skeptical of its beauty and natural advantages, which will ere long mak Marble Fall the manufacturing center of the southwest. The north bound train of th International and Great Northern, da at 8:43 p. was detained here about three and a ba boor on account of the locomotive Jumping the track at the bridge switch. The tram wm pulling off of th bridge slowly, and an open switch caused th lo-eomotiv to leav th track and run about twenty yards on tbe ties, but the train was stopped before any further damage.

The switch engine pulled it on. In the cxeroises at St. Mary's academy last night it was manifest that the students had received a thorough training in the art of el.tcution, and when the simple fact is stated that Miss Helen Haanders has had ehariie of that department of the institution during the term just closed, the secret of excellence will be under stood and appreciated. Miss Haanders is a thoroughly well qualified aud pamstak ing teacher, as was evidenced by her pu pils last evening. PERSONAL POINTS.

Two or three ease were tried and taken under advisement, ST. EDWARD'S COLLEGE. Annual Closing ExercisesHappy Students and Delighted Friends. The annual closing exercise at 8t. Edward' eolleg began Tuesday afternoon, at 3 o'clock.

For an hour previous a long line of carriages, freighted with parents and friends of th avenue beyond th river and wound it way among tb hilts. Th day wa fine, though warm, and a large number of visitors were attracted from the city also. Never before was such a concourse seen at the college grounds. The study hall was festooned for the occasion and presented a neat appearance. At 3 o'clock the door were opened, and a quarter of an hour afterwards the exercises commenced.

The salutatory of Santos M. Benavides was an original essay in verse, well composed, admirably suited to the occasion, and very well delivered. The speaker's enunciation was clear, and the gestures graceful and appropriate. In fact, throughout all the declamations and original compositions the free and graceful and appropriate gestures were a marked feature, rather uncommon among students, and showing very careful elocutionary training. Among th musical renditions the Scotch melody, "Long Ago," by Messrs.

Benavides, W. Wood and H. J. Zdaril, and the "May Galop" of Tobias R. Wood, deserved special mention for general excellence.

Mr. J. W. Smiths selection for the guitar, and Hermsn Krans' sonatina on the piano were well received, and especially by the ladles. Mr.

Zunigas Spanish essay, El Saber el Virtud," was almost a masterpiece in composition, but delivered ra'her too quickly and in too low a tone of voioe to show it to the best advantage. So far the various pieces were, with one or two exceptions, received with rather quiet but real appreciation. No sooner bad Mr. Baker opened the famous oration against Catiline, in tbe original Latin, than a general stir wss noticed. This young man is really a promising orator.

On reaching the fiery and scathing passage, temporal mores! Senatua baec intelligit, consul videt; hie tamen vivit Tivit one could almost have imagined himself in grand old Marcus Tullins' presence is the Roman senate, so realistic was the effect. Mr. Baker's enunciation of the Latin is very clear, and he went through tbe entire oration as if he were a Roman to the manor born." His oration, too, an original essny, wss a masterly composition, and delivered in splendid style. It richly deserved the gold medal for oratory, and the, loud and long continued applause bestowed upon it. Commercial diplomas were conferred on Messrs.

John T. Baker, of San Saba; JoLn Pinnel, of Chicago, and F. M. Austin. Tbe gold medal for oratory was awarded to JohnT.

The Court of Appeals. Th eonrt of appeal disposed of a large number of ease yesterday, two of which, at leant, are of dome general Interest. In th i parte eas of II. U. Asher, on babM corpus, to tet the validity of the drummers tax, Judge White, In an elab rate opinion, declines to release th prisoner, holding the law imposing tai opon drummer in Tetaa to constitutional and valid This decision upset, or, more properly speaking, negatives the recent decision of Mr.

Justice Bradley, of th anpreme eonrt 01 the tutted States, in th can of Rob bins vs. th taiing district of Memphis, Tennessee. In this case it waa held that license tai opon a drummer from one state doing business in another state was a violation of interstate commerce law. Judgt White' decision, it i said, holds that as th law of this atata impose a like tat on drummer for house in the state as well a oat of th state, th ease In consideration is not akin to to that presented before th supreme court of tl, United 6Ut, ia that, in in this one, there is no discrimina tion made between, the drammers of this and other state in th require mnt of a lioense tax, and therefore there li bo undo restriction upon interstate commerce. Th court passed upon and denied th motion for reheariug, in the case of the State vs.

Wedding of Miss Stella Wooten and Mr. W. J. Bailey, Yesterday. At the First Baptist church, yesterday morning, in th presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends, were sol emnized the nuptial vows of Miss Stella Wooten, of this city, and Mr.

W. J. Bailey, of Fort Worth, Dr. Wm. Howard, pastor of th church, performing the ceremony.

Th honr st for the wedding was 9 o'clock a. sometime before whicb the church wm filled by faces and figures old and young of b-th sexes, Tbe bride on this occasion is one of those few in this life, to mention whose name is to have for response some tribute of love or admiration for her, whose many lovely traits of character have made her endeared to all with whom she came in contact. When such as she is to be made a bride it is no won der that tender and affectionate hands should be found to trim with plants and flower tbe sanctuary, at whose attar she gives her band in marriage. The church yesterday morning was decorated as if for a Christmas or an Easter festival. In addition to festoons of flowers and green, on th wall directly back of the pulpit was huiig the monogram, B.
