Society are jus home from our holMay. We are both suffering; from a bad attack of after- holiday depression. The first symptoms showed themselves the moment we arrived; the maid told us, i.s she opened the door, that she had decided to pet married and was leaving at once. She said that while we were away the house had got on her nerves. Next morning, when my husband had gone to the oll'icp, I threw myself, with as niikh enthusiasm as 1 could summon up into the gruesome process known as "settling down." 1 unpacked; I realized that the sun had faded my frock, the sea-water spoilt my shoes.

I called for our dog at the kennels where we had hoarded him. lie had caught mange. I fetched our cat from the friends who had promised to look after her as though she were a well-loved child. She was so thin I didn't know her. 1 went home and had "a look round." The house was full of dust.

The garden was full of weeds. The back gate had come off its hinges and the sink was stopped up. Meanwhile my husband had been hung up half-an-hour by an excursion train. At the office he found that Jones, who had been doing his work, had made such a muddle of everything that it will, so I gathered, take the best part of a year to straighten out again. His ununl lunch waitress was on leave, and he was served by a dour female who wouldn't laugh at his jokes.

On the way home he nut Smith, who waa just starting for bit holiday. Something had to be done, we felt, to conquer our mutual fit of the "blues." We thought of our blessing. It waa rather nice to Bleep In our own beds again. It waa pleasant, too, not to watt In a draughty passage for a lukewarm bath four Inches deep. And we found other cures.

One was work. But a word of advice on this point: Don't overdo it. The woman who trlea to clean her house within twenty-four hours of her return to It, the man who tries to catch up with his work in a single day. will undo all the good their holiday haa done them. Fascinating Calculations There after all, plenty of time the whole winter, in fact! We planned email Improvements in the house and garden.

We started again those fascinating calculation connected with the possible) purchase of a second-hand car. We bought an album and stuck our inapshoti In It. We laid our white flannel garments reverently to rest and discussed our winter coats. We told each other how nice the long winter evenings would be. We laid In our winter stock of coal.

And, when all else failed, we put our heads together and planned our next year's holiday! Mr. Harold Turner, of Quebec. Is the guest of Dr. and Mrs. Harvey Smith, K'jslyn Hoad.

Severn and Miss McDonald by Campbell Studio. Summers Color Scheme PUMMKR, as we have seen, ar-ranges her color-nchemes according to plan when she paints field and hillside with flowers. She started out In the sudden spring that Is really summer In disguise with a pretty manipulation of red shades, and the first tesseiated buds were red, and bronze and orange, and the willow catkins were yellow and only the marsh marigolds were a yellow aa the buttercups and dandelions. At the same time, however, that she summoned all these sunny flowers, she experimented with moon-white fruit blossoms and anemones, and waxy pigeon-berry flowers, and white violets, which made her enamored of faint subtle coloring and pa.stcl shades. Hence the wild rose perfumed the warm, dusty roadside and white and purple vetch, shell-pink twlnflowers, and hardy clover, showed what marvels can be wrought with pink and mauve and rose, and the climax was reached with the wild orchid of the swamps.

Pink and violet coud be no more beautiful, so summer scattered blue flowers to reflect her best skies. Bluebells quivered In the long grass or nodded on rocky heights, then as nthlng could surpass their symmetry the wild mint outdid them In blueness. So summer lessened this beautiful monotony with a flush of white everlasting flower, and then a sheaf of goldenrod burst Into flame, and the damage was done. Everything burst into a blaze of color: the golden-rod and daisies heralded that ultimate glory when birches turn to gold, and a.sh trees to canary-yellow, and oaks to copper and poplars to every color from peach-yellow to wine-red, and sumac, Virginia creeper and tha hated poison ivy vie with one another In ruddiness. The town gardens took their cue from the glowing fields, as the golden-glow flashed yellower than the golden-rod. and then the orderly scheme of things was forgotten, anil sweet peas, zinnias, snap-dragon and the wanton nasturtiums, and finally the goodly company of dahlias and asters ran riot in rainbow flames that flashed their happy signal from street to street until the trees took notice, and began to turn from green to gold. Then summer saw that she had run the gumut of color, and returned to those yellows and reds with which she had toyed before tha world was green, so she handed her palette to autumn, and departed one night, between a (laming sunset and a frosty dawn.
