INJUNCTION EXCITEMENT I'etition at Deloraine Coin- piled in the Same as in rembina. iJeloraine, Oct. 30. There was some excitement umong the temperance people hero when it was reported that Judge Metcalfe had granted an injunction against the l'emblmi council, Iireventlng them from voting on the local option by-law because the petl-1 1 hi wax made un of a number of sheets pasted together In a long roll. The petition here was made up in the fcame way.

It transpires, however, that that was done beiore the people signed it, and not afterwards, as appears to have been the ease in l'em-nina. In other words, there whs only one petition circulated in I leloraine ojr two persons, who saw all the signatures attached and the petition was lengthened by the addition of new sheet as frequently as more space was required. The i Moraine petition probably has the same appearance as that of rembina, but It la not likely that It will be attacked. A New Council. Hiding Mountain.

on Sunday W. A. Vrooman discussed the uuestion, "locs science destroy belief in the Supernatural?" as the first of a series of addi- sscs on "Vital educations i Modern He said all our tono -ptiuns of Uod are derived lrom our knowledge oX nature nnJ man. tioj is a hypothesis to txpluln the facts. No man has seen liod, but neither bus any man imr been an atom.

The atom is assumed to exist as the invisible unit of matter. In tile same way the existence of liod is assumed aa the Invisible mind and will whciin; all things derive being and quality. Does science accept tiic material uiom as the in-pianutioii of ail plieiioinc.ia and destroy tile larger hypothesis of The agnostic shirks responsibility lor an unswer. He says he do.H not know what to think, iiut no mind can rest saUsMcd in negations. The materialist assumes the atom be omnipotent.

Although behaves like a manufactured article It Is conceived to be self-existent and eteral. Although it is described as an electric vortex ill the universal ether It is en dowed with all thu qualities uf rudi mentary intelligence, will and sensation. 'Die works which we ascribe to Hod, the materialist truces to the chance combination of tile numberless atoms in the universe. Matter is not tile product of mind, but mind is the function of un association of atoms which happened to gather in a skull. Will is a product ul chemistry.

The universe by chance happened to arise when thu eternal atoms united their rudimentary minds upon tile task Haeckel wrotu a wore on cell-souls. He denied the need of tlod. Soul, or Free will to account for nuture. He found some soul and mind in every atom and cell and when sufficient ml' these were gathered In proper combination, the concourse of atoms mull -Ifestcd divine wisdom. The addition of an Infinite number of atomic intelligences would in his opinion be suffi cient to account lor the universe.

Such a hypothesis is more incredible than that which places the Inlinite Cod at the beginning of tilings and Units the evidence ot unifying mind und will in the course of nature. Thn speaker snowed from the works of such thinkers as Lodge, botze and Fiske that some form of Idealism Is displacing the antiquated matiirialisin ill all modern philosophy. The Christian idea of Uod, Inlinan-cnt in nature aim yet transcendant above all. is sustained by all the lines of modern research. Within lhe system of nature the universal Hcign of Law is invincible evidence of a creative reason.

Nature is an organism, within which (iod has fixed unalter' able conditions of cause and consequence. Within the boundaries of that systi in reigns un unbroken law o.f causation in regard to nil physical phenomena. Predetermined laws reveal the Indexible limits within which all beings must exist. We have no evidence that even the divine energy ever acts within the system in anv way different to the methods we may lei.rn as the iaws of nature. The forces uf nature were set in motion by the eternal will.

The laws of nature express the administrative wisdom of omniscience. The evolution of the universe is the method of creation. Hut In human Hie we meet thut which transcends explanation In purely physical terms. The cnain of natural causation breaks at the point where reason, conscience and moral freedom appear. While these nre rooted in nature they rise Iranseend-iilit above the system out of which they spring.

In the lower plane the revelation of Cod Is in ti ruis of physical law and force. In the higher plane the revelation Is in terms of moral freedom, reason and love. As pHrt of the system of nature men have no freedom. They are i natures produced bv physical forces and predetermined laws. Natural evolution Is predestination, as rising out oJ nature having a measure of nmr.il freedom and choice they have fellowship with a plane of life which trans.

ends the system of nature. Here tin touch the mysteries of a higher stein whose laws we can but dimly discern and which for lack of a better term Is called supernatural. Here character Is the product of choice and In the light of reason and conscience every man by his own volition has power to cause himself be what he wills to be. The i all of the Invlne draws men Into ii'inmunlon with the Creator. Uod, who Is known In nature as Force, Is known In supi mature as Love, know In the phvslcnl world as Law.

Is known In the spiritual life as Father. Of this life of the spirit Jesus Is the pre-eminent example, showing men that II their destiny to rise above the condition of the natural man to the character of the spiritual man. As says: "The bridge Is thus conipli to tut ween the divine nud lhe human personality, and we crown the religion of causation and of the cotlscii Hi by the religion of the spirit. Manitoba College Boys Have March Around City Last Night. Manitoba college students were out on the warpath last night, and they certainly let everybody know that they were alive. The march of the students led them through the Dominion and Hijou theatres, and at both places of amusement the college yell was given with lull lorce, The homes of the different profes sors were also visited, and in every rase the bovs were greeted with warm welcome and the professors shelled out In the most approved Hal lowe'en manner. The rattle and din In the street be low had disturbed his peace of mind and like the man from Missouri he hud to be "shown." "What the dickens is all the racket about?" he muttered. It was Hallowe'en and the trnln of the L. 1. was so warped that he hud clear forgotten it. The scene was on Logan avenue In front of a grocery store.

Children of all age and manner of garb were beseiglng the dispensary of victuals and the shop keeper and his grinning assistants were having an extremely busy session. The L. "We won't go until you shell out," was wafted to the em's of the L.

I. With visions of a Suffragette raid and having his store and contents strewn pearemeal the wily storekeeper passed around a helping of apples, candy and other tasty morsels, calculated to appease the elaniorlngs of the kaleidoscopic throng. The youngsters satisfied and passed on two doors to fields anew. Hut here they encountered sterner opposition and Instead of heinv extended a peace offering In the shape of fruit or candy they were met with a volley of antique ap-des. "I rectum thi- Is shelling out some." declared one of the rlerks with a grim smile as he drew back his arm for the 'steenlh time preparatory to delivering a pnrtlv decomposed apple.

Hut lo for the clerk. The L. I. had-barely caught his remark when biff! at the psychological moment an apple caught the clerk square ill the eye. Ills retreat was ac companied by a shout of derision while the boy who had made tin- 'shot danced Jig on the pavement.
