h.bTmackenzie, montreal bank head, is dead CONTINUED week I spent considerable time with him, not only In his office but In his home, and he seemed In good health and as active and alert as ever. He was looking forward with zest to going to New York to clay self with an old intimate friend over the Easter week end. "I have known Mr. Mackenzie for 24 years, and there was no one for whom I had such a high regard, not only as a personal friend, but as a business man and banker. My affection for him was profound.

He was guided by the highest principles of morality in every deed and action, and It was only last week, when peaking with him regarding a matter altogether aside from the lending of money, that he made the remark that If one does what he believes to 1 vlN 1 I0 com be ripht, he will never go far wrong "This remark and advice was typi cal of the principles that motivated his every action. He was a typical representative of the fine old stock which laid the business und social foundation of modern Canada. "As a banker ne possessed nn as tonishtncly keen insight into business affairs, the result of many yearn quiet study and observation. I venture to say that when he was appointed geii eial manager of the Bank ef Montreal last October, no appointment was received with more widespread appro nation amongst the banking fratern ity than was his. The number of his friends, from Halifax to Vancouver, were legion.

Every one trusted and respected his Judgment and advice. "Mr. Mackenzie lived in Winnipeg from 1907 to 1909, when he was western superintendent of the Bank of British Noith America, and he was widely known in the city and throughout the prairie luovinccs. While Mr Mackenzie has been general manager of the Bank of Montreal for only a few months, he had in that short period made a distinct contribution to the hank, and his passing will be a distinct loss." "Canada has lost one of her most outstanding bankers," was the tribute of 8. L.

Cork, supervisor of the Royal Bank of Canada. "The news of his death will be a shock, indeed, to the banking and business world. Even years sgo, when Mr. Mackenzie was associate, with the old Bank Of British North America, his ability was widely recognized. He was held in the highest regard both as a banker and a citizen." J.

'The banking fraternity recognized his ability, Mr. Woods said, "and in his career there was a wealth of evidence of his worth. C.

O. K. Noune, manager of the Bank of Commerce here, knew Mr Mackenzie personally for 25 veais "He was a brilliant flguro in Can adlan banking Mr. Noune said, "and his death will leave a place hard to fill. Not only will the financial world miss him.

As a private citizen, in whatever part of the country be made his home, he was held In high esteem. He will be sincerely missed." R. K.
