were married in Statesville January 12 1909 1 observed the 60th anniversary of their wedding at an open house Sunday afternoon Mrs Poston the former Marie Annie Adams and her husband had eight children six of whom are living A son Banks Poston was killed in service during World War II in 1945 and Mrs George Coleman a daughter died in September 1967 The Postons also have 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren most of whom were present for the cele bration The other children all of whom were present are Howard Poston of Van Nuys Calif Hoy A Poston Henry Poston I and Tom Poston all of States ville Ken Poston of Charlotte i and Mrs Paul Harwell of I Mooresville Mrs Ken Poston of Charlotte and Paul Harwell of Mooresville greeted the approximately 200 guests who called from 2:30 until 5:30 pm and presented them to the receiving line Children of the honored couple received with their parents Mrs Poston wore a petal pink dress of dacron knit with lace trim and dyed to match shoes Her jewelry was a diamond pendant an anniversary gift and she pinned a white orchid on her shoulder Mr Poston wore a white buttionniere as did the men in the family who assisted I with the entertainment Each of the women who helped had white carnation corsages Mrs Charles Madison Statesville and Mrs Howard Poston of Van Nuys Calif directed guests to the dining room where granddaughters of the honored Poston of Charlotte The dining room table was covered with a white cutwork cloth and centered with an 'arrangement of white snap dragons white chrysanthemums and pink carnations in a large cut glass bowl Pink tapers burned in triple branched silver candelabra flanking the center piece At one end of the table was the anniversary cake trim med in pale pink flowers White column spreaders separated each of the three tiers Punch poured from a silver bowl at the opposite end of the table was served with cake squares i mints and salted nuts Handsome floral arrangements were used in decorations
