The above cut Is taken from the architect's drawing and shows the front elevation of the hotel now being erected on the coiner of Mttin and Rupert streets. The building will be stfc stories high instead of four as at first Intended. Tin- architect is II. S.

Griffin. The real estate business of this week from all reports hits been entirely satisfactory so far as the agents are concerned at auyrate. Although there have beeif no sensational sales or no special features to the market the amount of business done has been unusually large for a July week. July and August are generally figured on as holiday months anil particularly about the time of the Winnipeg fair agents do not expect to be particularly busy. The market all year has been very steady and scarcely any laxity In business has yet been noticed.

It is estimated that during the week sales to the amount of arly half a million dollars have been made. The business has been fairly well distributed anion! the various districts, the largest amount being in St. John's. St. James-and i.

Boniface also had a good share. A large business hase been done this week in homes. The demand is rapidly Increasing as the building season advances, and the chances of getting a home built before fall grow less. All the agents arc besieged with enquiries looking for houses at moderate prices. Such houses and Indeed nil kinds and prices are scarce, very.

The building of four or IHe thousand houses and scores of apartment blocks has hail no apparent effect on the house famine, and they who are put out from the place that has given them shelter In the past, by cruel landlord or purchaser, must needs buy or build houses of their own. The extension of the street railway line Into Kildonan east, along the Bird's Hill road. Is having considerable effect on property along that highway, nnd great activity In all sub-dlvlslons near Louise Bridge is reported. The work of constructing the road is rapidly advancing and the grading and track lay ing has been completed for more than a mile from the end of the bridge. The announcement from New York that a company wus being organized and fin anced to take over the Winnipeg, Selkirk and Lake Winnipeg Electric railway and operate It as an electric road Is having a similar effect on property along the Selkirk road, nosejery gar dens and other acreage properties for market gardens and country homes are meeting with a very successful sale.

There has recently been noticeable a giowing flurry In the district west of the city between the new Canadian Pacific shops and Notre Dame avenue. The building of the great railway works there started the movement last year and the paving of Logan avenue nnd double tracking Is having a very noticeable effect on the property. Fifty feet frontage on Logan avenue, between Sherman and Tecumseh streets, was sidd this week at $40 a foot. Along Notre Dame west of Nena street, there has been quite an active demand and a piece of property near the Royal Lum her company's yards, a few blocks west of Nena street, was sold at $100 a foot. It was reported this week that all of block 41 St.

James, between Portage avenue nml tne river, which was sub divided a short time ago. and all sold, Iieen repurchased and it Is under stood that the Canadian Northern Railway company have secured the property. It was announced In The Triuwie a short time ago that the C. Cherry Pectoral. We believe In doctors.

Lust year tho upartment block In Winnipeg was only an experiment, but has proven a great success and this year more than a Bcore, most of them li.rse, are being erected. Among the largest sales marlo this week were two on Main street Bouth. Two fifty foot lots opposite the Winnipeg hotel were sold for $20,000 and (In of the lots was vacant and the ether had buildings. The sales were made by Brown's. Land and Business Exchange.

The WInnlprg school board has purchased three more sites at a cost of nearly $40,000. One was In Crescent-wood, Fort Rouge, Just west of St. Mary's academy, purchased from C. H. Enderton for $23,000.

Another purchased from Gllnes Co. for $15,000 Is situated between Mulvey school and the city's western boundary, consisting of lots 8 to 22 and 30 to 44, In block eight, 63 and 64, St. James. The third is north of Portage avenue, near Beres-ford Place, and was secured from A. i.

Norquay for $15,000. Hugo Ross, of the Hugo Rosa Renlty company, is spending a few days at Kcnora. Alderman Latimer this work sold 100 feet of property on Langside street, north of Elllce avenue, at $30 a foot. He purchased it a short time ago at $-0 a foot. Bedalll Brothers closed a deal for 50 feet of property on tiarry street next to the Manitoba club, for a price in the neighborhood of $15,000.

A number of the real estate brokers ara preparing to entertain their out-of-town clients and visitors to the Winnipeg exhibition next week. It is not expected that many deals will be closed during the fair, but tho results generally come in afterwards. It is considered that the exhibition is the best drawing card Winnipeg has for a short visit, and every opportunity to show the city to interested visitors will be gladly accepted. James Cadham has completed plans for the rebuilding of the Scott block, which was recently destroyed by lire. The building will be the same size as bffore, und the handsome granite front at present standing will be used, bu; other changes will be made, l'art of the building will be divided into offices, and there will be a main entrance to the building In the centre at the front, with a store on each side.

Tenders will be called soon, and the work started as soon as possible. Work on the apartment block being erected by Mayor Sharpo on the corner of Kennedy street and Sargent avenue is progressing rapidly, and the tlock promises to be a handsome one. Extensive Improvements are about to be made in the Commonwealth blcek by Mr. McNIchol, the owner. This will be at a cost of $50,000.

Mr. McNIchol, who is said to own over a million dollars' worth of property in Winnipeg, bellevesi that the block, which is situated at tho cornorof Main and Market streets, commands tho best business site In Winnipeg. One of the finest blocks In the city now almost completed, being that of the Winnipeg House Furnishings company, on the corner of Portage avenue and Hargrave street. The excavation for tho large exten sion of Central Congregational church Is almost completed, and the stone work for the foundation started. The largo stone building of Robin son and company on Arthur street, lri tho rear of the Main street store, Is Hearing completion.

Plans have been prepared by J. II. Ci. Russell for a handsome residence fo- Mrs. E.
