Other fuels are used in other plants around the world — oil, coal, electricity. • This evaporation process is but one of the ways of desalting water. Other ways of desalting are: freezing, which separates salt crystals from water crystals; reverse osmosis, which forces water through a membrane, leaving the salt behind; or use of an electric current to force salt and minerals but of sea or other brackish water. Dr. Glenn T. Seaborg, chairman of the Atomic .Energy Commission, says that' in five years small nuclear plants should be commercially available for producing electricity and desalting oceans at the same time.
