2 WINCHESTER EVENING STAR Saturday, December 23, 1972 Obituaries Roy G. Leake Roy G. Leake, 60, of Berryville, died yesterday at his residence, following a prolonged illness. Mr. Leake was born May 16, 1912, in Berryville, a son of the late Robert Owen and Bessie Lanham Leake.

He was a member of ths Berryville Baptist Church and was the operator of a local grocery business. He was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ida S. Leake; one son, Roy G.

The body is at the Enders Funeral Home. Slonaker Service A funeral "service for Mrs. Carrie Slonaker, 89, of Capon Bridge, W.Va., will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Capon Bridge United Methodist Church by the pastor, the Rev. Arthur R.

Homer and Dr. J.F. Omps. Burial will be in the Malick Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Wynfred Moreland, Ray Pugh, Grayson Swisher, Winfred Haines, Bobby Orndorff, William Smith.

The family will receive friends this evening at the Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge, from 7 to 9. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Dyke Service A funeral service for John H. Dyke, 62, of Route 5, who died Thursday at his residence will be conducted this afternoon at 3 at the Jones Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles T.

Bockhouse. Pallbearers were: Basil F. Cooper, M.A. Wiley, M. Marco Mcllwee, George W.

Tasker, Earl J. Rosenberger and Abraham L. Clark. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.

But the shopkeepers in Bethlehem were despondent because bad weather this past week has kept pilgrims away from the town where Christ was born. Although today was clear and warm, the mayor of Bethlehem, Elias Freij, said, "I think it's going to be a one-day Christmas season. I doubt that we will get the 15,000 tourists we expected." Nevertheless, Bethlehemites still hoped for a big tourist influx on Christmas Eve.

As Americans prepared for Christmas there was gratitude' in a California home and happiness in a remote arctic village. Arthur C. Clark Mr. Arthur C. Clark, 84, of Cedar Grove, died today in Winchester Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Clark was born October 30, 1888 in Frederick County, a son of the late John A. C. and Mary S. Loy Clark.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Little Mountain United Methodist Church. His wife, the former Gertrude C. Carper, preceeded him in death. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Josephine V.

Fishel of Winchester, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Wednesday, at Omps Funeral Home by Rev. Alan Reading. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery. Friends may call at the Omps Funeral Home.

Mrs. Forrest Riffle Mrs. Leota Wayne Riffle, 56, of Rivermont Drive, Front Royal, died early this morning at her home. She was born Oct. 31, 1916 in Gilmer County, W.Va., daughter of the late Wirt William Barker and Icie Moore Barker.

Surviving are her husband, Forrest Riffle of Front Royal; three sons, William Riffle of Front Royal and Robert Riffle of Rockville, Md. and James Riffle of Laurel, one daughter, Mrs. Sharon Butler of Glen Burnie, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Canfield and Mrs. Lucille Murphy, both of Sandfork, W.Va.; one brother, Stanley Barker of Sandfork; and five grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the chapel of the Robertshaw Funeral Home, conducted by Jerry Garner. Burial will be at Panorama Memorial Gardens at Waterlick Friends may call at the Robertshaw Funeral Home. "We're grateful he's safe and 1 well," the parents of U.S. Navy Cmdr.

Gordon Ross Nakagawa told friends after learning that their son had been shot down and captured Wednesday near North Vietnam's port of Haiphong. "Whatever happens to him, he will take it in good stride," his mother, Harriet Nakagawa of Auburn, said. The 37-year- old flier said in a Hanoi radio broadcast Friday he was all right except for a fractured was being well treated. It will be the second time Nakagawa is going to be spending Christmas in an internment camp. Thirty years ago, his family was interned along with other Japanese-Americans when the United States and Japan were at war.

At a remote arctic village an enterprising youngster erected a sign on the tail of a U.S. Air Force C130 cargo plane saying "Santa Claus, come back next year." The plane from Elmendorf Air Force Base near Anchorage on Wednesday brought 7,300 pounds of toys, food and clothes to the community located 50 miles north of the Arctic Circle and 75 miles from the nearest settlement. Larrick Service A funeral service for Luther M. Larrick, 80, of Mt. Falls who died Friday at his residence, will be conducted Sunday at 2 at the Jones Funeral Home by Dr.

David Palmer and Rev. Daniel Agnew. Pallbearers will be: M.A. Wiley, Thomas B. Rosenberger, Charles Clowser, Charles F.

Brown, Elmer DeHaven and Robert M. Boyd. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, with a graveside service conducted by the Woodmen of the World. The family will receive friends this evening at the Jones Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Alva Mack Hockman Mr.

Alva Mack Hockman, 82, of Rt. 50 east, Winchester, died Friday evening at his residence. Mr. Hockman was born February 14, 1890, at Hoy, West a son of the late John and Alice Godlove Hockman. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Calvery Church of the Brethren.

Surviving are six children, Mrs. Maurice Grossneckle of Burkettsville, W. Mack Hockman and Duane Hockman, both of Frederick County, Mrs. Mrs. Virginia Vance and James L.

Hockman, both of Winchester and Roxy R. Hockman of Hamilton, eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, P. Stein Hockman and India Hockman of Romney, West Va. and Mrs. Lake Hockman Heitt of Hoy, West Va.

A funeral service wi'l be conducted 2 p.m. tomorrow at Omps Funeral Home by Rev. Fred Bowman. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Omps Funeral Home this evening from 7:30 until 9 P.M.

It was the eighth Christmas mission by the Air Force to the village. Before the plane set down on Minor Damage Reported as Tanker Upsets Minor damage was reported yesterday afternoon when a gasoline tanker truck loaded with 1200 gallons of kerosene and fuel oil overturned on the Airport Road near Rt. 522, South. The truck did not catch fire, according to fire officials, and damage was listed as scrapes on the body of the truck. No one was reported injured.

The accident occurred about firemen said, when the truck, travelling west on the Airport Road overturned about 100 feet east of Rt. 522 trying to stop. The driver's name was not available. The truck is owned by Garland M. Canter.

FIREMEN also responded to a call at 3:12 p.m. involving a Stickley's Garage pickup truck stuck in a ditch on old Rt. 522 near the Lee-Jackson Motel. No personal injury or fire was reported. Firemen were called out by passing motorists who saw smoke rising from the truck's spinning tires, fire officials said.

Oakland's World Series hero Gino Tenace played seven games at first base during the regular season. He played that position in the seventh and final World Series game. Mrs. Elryon Richard Mrs. Martha Moore Richard, 72, of Mt.

Falls Route, died Friday in the Winchester Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Richard was born in Mountain Falls on Aug. 26, 1900, daughter of the late Gordon F. and Nellie Fishel Moore.

She married Bryon Richard in 1920 in Winchester. She was employed at the National Fruit Products, Inc. She was a member of the Mt. View United Methodist Church. Mrs.

Richard is survived in addition to her husband by two sisters: Mrs. Grace M. Brush of Canadesia, and Mrs. Emma Roberts of Mt. Falls and two brothers, Harden C.

Moore of Portland, Ore. and William Moore of Mt. Falls. A sister, Mrs. Neva Haines and a brother Orie Moore, preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 at the Jones Funeral. Home by Rev. Charles Andrews. Burial will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
