The Doty-Dayton production is a three year old organization, and they have made three other movies, "Where the Red Fern Grows," "Seven Alone" and "Against the Crooked Lyman Dayton and Dr. Ellis Doty are the owners, and Robert Totten is the director. This company only makes rated movies. "We chose Kerrville as the filming area because Van Poorman, Ace Reid andl have been friends for years," said Totten.

The company is making their headquarters at the Holiday Inn, and Inn-keeper Dick McNamara says "there is no doubt this is the greatest and hardest working group of people I've ever met." The script was written by Totten, producers Dan Greer and Hal Harrison. Totten has directed several movies, including "The Red Pony" starring Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara, and "The Wild and was co-director of "Spencer's Mountain." The cast of Pony Express Rider includes Henry Wilcoxson, Stewart Peterson, Buck Taylor, Ken Curtis, Gunsraoke Festus, Jack Elam, Dub Taylor, Joan Caufield, Slim Pickens, Larry Mann and Ace Reid.
