CUMBERLAND EVENING TIMES, TUESDAY, MAR. 11,1930 PAGE THIRTEEN Community Baseball Meeting Here Tonight Many Believe Colts Should Stay At Home and Give Local Merchants Patronage. DAVE BLACK SIGNS; BURNING TO REPORT Second Baseman Returns Signed Contract; Outfielder Accepts Terms Offered, With the announcement that Dave Black, veteran second baseman, has returned his signed contract, and will be back beside Johnny Byrnes, stellar first baseman, directors of Community Baseball, Incorporated, will meet this evening at the City Hall at :30 o'clock in a somewhat op- mistic frame of mind. The signing of Black should be yelcoine news to the fans, and is a happy tiding to the club officials who gather this evening to discuss plans for the spring training of the team. Poor Weather At Berkeley Some of the directors are In favor of having the Colts do their drills here in preparation for the Middle Atlantic League season.

The point is raised that the team in past years has not been helped by going to Berkeley Springs where inclement weather has limited the workouts to three or four days in the span of two weeks that the team was there both last year and in 1928. Berkeley Springs was having hail, rain and snow when Cumberland was enjoying real basebaT weather. Indications that the season will be an open one here also should be a point in favor of the Colts training In Cumberland. Doming- To Sign expenses of the clnb might be a little higher, but the transportation charges for sending the team to Berkeley or anywhere nearby would be greater than the difference In hotel rates. Then, too, this being a Community' affair, the Cumberland merchants and movie houses should get a chance to cash Jn.

CoL Nelscon W. Bossier, club saresldent, who announced the re- ceipt of Black's signed contract also advised that Geortte Burning, veteran outfielder, had aisreed to term? The ball will be tossed up in the center circle at 8:30 o'clock. There are many features connected with tonight's but per- laps the most significant is the fact hat the players now wearing the colors of Green Street Junior High comprised the "second team" at the West Side school last year. Great Rivalry This off-hand would not be con- idered anything out of the ordinary, -but when it recalled that tiey were "second stringers" to the players who will represent the Uumni it should serve to all the more enhance the rivalry tetween the teams.

The Alumni -is a young aggregation also, but has more experience. The players all Sophomores at Allegany High school and one of them, Ike Cessna, is one of the'main cogs in Allegany's machine. Another, "Cutey" Wffllson by name, is the first substitute on the Blue and White squad. Bhind and Beyolkeyj have played a number of games with the W. M.

Leaders, while Nick Angelletta, the fifth member of the Alumni tribe, is a real basketball player and should i AHesasy Best the year after. Green Street Fast Green Street too, has a fast- team. Small in size it Is a giant in strength. A little youngster -by the name of Twigg seems to be Green Street's best bet, Twigg is the "brains" of the team. He has more speed than the other four and always contents himself with passing the ball.

Another good player is Pindley one-band artist who Bakes some sensational shots. Find- 'ey is better or the offense than on the defense.
