About the same time, she became interested in being a blood donor so she asked her mother for permission. She has been a blood donor since 1943, and by the end of this year Hutchinson will have given her 15th gallon of blood. She often works as a volunteer at local blood drives. Hutchinson has worked 65 national disasters since 1980 and she usually spends about six months or more on disaster assignments. Her duties consist of keeping records and making reports to the national office. Hutchinson prefers to work as a coordinator in Service Centers.
