A lover of music, he played snare drum in the Troy High School Marching Band for four years and was a member of the school symphonic band, symphonic orchestra and jazz band. His older brother, Bill Love, plays tuba in the MSU Marching Band. Besides his parents and brother, survivors include his grandmother Shirley Warner. A memorial service is set for 7 tonight at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3633 Big Beaver Road, Troy.

His body is to be cremated. CONTACT JOE ROSSfTER: 313-222-6594 OR JROSSITER8FREEPRESS.COM Unable to attend classes during his senior year at Troy High School, a homebound teacher helped with his lessons. He graduated in June after his high school principal and counselor donned caps and gowns along with Mr. Love and conducted a private graduation ceremony in his hospital room. "Throughout the whole ordeal he was an amazing trooper who never complained or whined," said his mother, Denise Love.

"In the midst of all the poking and prodding, he remained quietly stoic and always with a smile on his face." By JOE ROSSITER FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER The magic and wonder of flight, long the dream of 18-year-old Jake Love, finally came true for the Michigan State University supporter thanks to the efforts of staff at University of Michigan Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor. Mr. Love hoped to become a pilot and pursue a career in aviation one day. He had plans to attend MSU in the fall. Those aspirations were put on hold last October when the Troy resident was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a condi tion where bone marrow doesn't produce sufficient new cells to replenish blood cells.

After a courageous nine-month battle with the disease, including a bone marrow transplant in February, he died Wednesday at Mott. Father's Day was a special day for Mr. Love and his dad, Joel Love. The two were whisked off on a helicopter ride courtesy of the U-M hospital staff. They first flew over Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, where a message written on a parking lot surface proclaimed: "MSU Loves Jake." The helicopter then headed lus.

"It was a very special moment and the thrill of a lifetime for Jake," his father said as he recalled the adventure. "Seeing the joy on his face was the greatest Father's Day present I could have asked for. You couldn't wipe the smile off his face."
