Presently outfitting in Wilmington is "Glomar North Sea," a self-propelled, steam- powered drilling ship capable of drilling for oil to depth of 25,000 feet. The ship, built at Todd Shipyards for Global Marine, displaces 9,550 tons when fully loaded with drilling equipment and is able to move between locations or cruise to new drilling areas without tugboat assistance. She will leave early in January, crossing the Pacific to reach assigned drilling area off coast of Iran in Persian Gulf.
