be beard so far nor would it be so satisfactory to' the players as from the nure open space in front of the court house. It would be an easy and inexpensive matter to arrange the roof of the portico so as to furnish light for ihe band, or, to try the ex -periment, a conceit or two might be given from the steps of the building. We feel sure that ohr City Fathers would defray the little expense necessary, or, if they would not, the matter might safely be turned over to the Improvement Society, whose sphere of effort extends far beyond waste paper boxes and the like. Years ago, when we used to blow our own horn, the Silver Cornet Band would climb out upon the little balcony of the old court house, and took great delight in playing for an hour or so of au evening to the multitude that thronged the walks of the park. Tue geuerous applause that met our efforts showed that our people enjoyed the music.

We wern't paid for it to be sure, and often some over-3ffi-cious janitor of the old buiidinir locked us out, but we always managed io find a weak spot to and then to give the people what they wanted good music. We hope that our present most excellent band and their active friends will find a way-same way to enliven this quiet town with good music for the people. The dwelling of m.
