SEPTEMBER 12. 2002 Thursday Evening Insight channelsCD Digital channels'6oo) Executive director ofKET to retire KET is losing its leader, but Virginia Fox is gaining a new life after more than four decades in public television and education. Fox, 63, who has been the executive director of KET since 1991, is retiring Dec 31. She joined KET in 1968.

Her decision to retire came as a surprise to many, even those inside the Lexington-based, statewide public network. "I'm going to spend more time with my husband (Vic), my family and do some volunteer work," said Fox, who is winding up a 42-year career. Fox established the platform for 4 digital television at KET a year ahead of federal mandates. Two new channels arrive in November, begin-ninga new era. "TV is re-inventing itself yet again," Fox said.

"It's an opportune time for a new leader to build a new vision for KET." Curry gives the frustrated butler his best and he's not bad at it, but "Family Affair" plays like a '60s sitcom that would have been better left in a TV Land time warp. In the news With the conclusion of "American Idol" last Wednesday, Fox claimed first place in the Nielsen ratings for the week.

The only times Fox has finished first before were during special sporting or entertainment events. The two-hour "American Idol" finale drew 22.8 million viewers. The debut of "Jimmy Neutron" last Friday at 8:30 p.m. was the highest-rated premiere in Nickelodeon's history.
