At the lunch hour on four days a lecturer will speak on topical concerns of Texas art. James Harithas, Director of the Contemporary Art Museum in Houston, will speak on "New Directions in Texas Art." Laurence Miller, director of Laguna Gloria, will discuss "The Art Museum's Role in the Creative Experience: The Visitor." Ken Havis, artist and gallery director at North Texas State University will speak on "Conceptual Art." Bruce Faulconer, a University of Texas doctoral student in music composition, has been named winner of the first annual Shenna Meeker Memorial Composer's Competition in Fort Worth. The competition is made possible by a bequest from the late Ms. Meeker and with support from the Texas Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts. Faulconer's winning work is entitled "Music for Chamber Orchestra: 1975," a one-movement form for a 23-instrument chamber orchestra. First prize in the new national competiton includes a $500 award and a performance of the work.

Faulconer's composition will be performed May 2 by the Chamber Orchestra of the Fort Worth Symphony, under the direction of John Giordano. The UT student has earned two degrees from UT Austin Bachelor of Music in theory and composition, 1972, and Master of Concert Friday At Crestview Oklahoma Baptist University's Chorale and Yahnseh Band will present a concert Friday at 8 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church, 7600 Woodrow. The two groups will combine for a group of selections from the oratorios of Haydn, Bernstein, Nelson and Walton and conclude the program with a group of contemporary gospel songs.
