Ray, announce the engagement of their daughter, Melinda, to Michael Parks, son of John and Carolyn Parks of Quincy, 111. The bride-elect graduated from Quivira Heights High School, Bushton, and received a bachelor's degree in accounting and business administration from the University of Kansas. She is an audit and quality control manager for Midland Loan Services in Kansas City, Mo. The future groom, a graduate of Quincy (111.) High School, received a degree in finance and economics from Culver Stockton College. He is a controller for Hodgdon Powder Co., Overland Park. . They are to exchange wedding vows at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Old Mission United Methodist Church in Fairway. Jason Holder Kelly Gilpin Gilpin-Holder Salinans Larry and Linda Gilpin, 2106 Applewood, announce the engagement of their daughter, Kelly, to Jason Holder, son of Charles and Gail Holder of Lea ven worth. The future bride graduated from Salina Central High School, received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Kansas State University and is pursuing a master's in middle level curriculum and instruction at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She teaches eighth-grade English at Dawes Middle School in Lincoln. Her fiance, a graduate of Lansing High School, is a May candidate for a bachelor's degree in history from K-State. He is to be commissioned in July as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Their wedding is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at the First Baptist Church in Salina. Danelle Meall Jason Dresslar Meall-Dresslar Bryan and Dee Meall of Minneapolis announce the engagement of their daughter, Danelle, to Jason Dresslar, son of Jack and Carol Dresslar of Wellsville. The bride-to-be graduated from Minneapolis High School and is a May candidate for a bachelor's degree in community health education from the University of Kansas. She is an intern at Watkins Health Center, on the KU campus. The prospective groom, a graduate of Phillipsburg High School, is pursuing a degree in civil engineering at KU. He is an assistant manager at Kwik Shop in Lawrence. The First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City is to be the setting for their 4 p.m. wedding July 19. Michael Bowers Laura Herzfeld Herzfeld-Bowers Daura Herzfeld of Miltonvale and Michael Bowers of Oak Hill announce their engagement and approaching marriage. Parents of the couple are Judy Brummet of Miltonvale; the late Neale Brummet Sr., Louise Bowers of Abilene and the late Jack Bowers. The future bride graduated from Miltonvale High School and The Academy of Hair Design. She owns and operates Outer Limits Hair Salon in Miltonvale. Her fiance, a graduate of Abilene High School, is a lineman for Kansas Power and Light in Abilene. They plan a June 2 wedding. Ryan Forsberg Kellie Langrell Langrell-Forsberg Kellie Langrell and Ryan Forsberg of Salina announce their engagement. Parents of the couple are Sali- nans Donna Langrell, 1853 Larson, and Mary Helen Forsberg, 210 W. Minneapolis, and Craig Forsberg of Chandler, Ariz. The bride-elect attended Salina South High School and is a cashier for Town Pump Market. Her fiance attended Southeast of Saline High School and works for Schwan's Sales Enterprises. A Sept. 12 wedding is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Salina. Sara Decker Bryan Schwerdtfeger Decker-Schwerdtfeger Dwight and Jeanne Decker of Canton announce the engagement of their daughter, Sara Elizabeth, to Bryan Richard Schwerdtfeger, son of Richard and Debi Schwerdtfeger of Emporia. The bride-to-be graduated from Canton-Galva High School and attends Emporia State University. Her fiance, a graduate of Emporia High School, works for Western Motor in Emporia. An Aug. 9 wedding is planned at the First Baptist Church in McPherson. James and Susan Backer Colip-Backer The Central Presbyterian Church in Denver was the setting for the March 22 wedding of Susan Colip and James S. Backer. Receiving their vows were the Revs. Ed Thwaites of Denver, Tom Backer of Omaha, Neb., and Winsor Stough of Yakima, Wash. Parents of the couple are Dr. and Mrs. Merlynn Colip of Norton and Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Beacher of Omaha. . Matron of honor and best man 'jvere Polly Schoen of Maple Plain, jMinn., and John Maly of Valencia, Calif. The bride graduated from Wheaton College and was enterprise manager for J.D. Edwards VVorld Solutions Co., a computer software firm in Denver. She plans to work for the same company in California. Her husband, a graduate of Stanford University, is senior vice president of Valencia Co., a division of Newhall Land & Farming Co.
