Zawadzki taught junior high and high school math, and he earned two college degrees so he'd know how to do it. He also coached junior and senior high school wrestling and he hadn't seen a wrestling match until he was coaching at his first meet. "He had never coached a day in his life until he got the team," his wife, Merrilee, said Monday.

"In the '60s, it was very common to grab every math teacher you could find. I don't know why, but every time he went to another school, it was the same thing. Math teachers just did this." He had to have been a quick learner, because the South Redford School District kept going back to him for more coaching. Monday through Friday TOLLESON, ROY MORTON JR. Succumbed to heart failure in Gulf Stream, Florida on February 20, 2004 at age 85. Born August 27, 1918 in Winona, Minnesota, he was the son. of Roy Morton Tolleson and Eleanor Otis Tolleson. He completed his BA with a history major at Carlton College, where he graduated with highest honors.

He earned his law degree at the University of Michigan, after interrupting his studies by serving two years as Captain in the Air Force Intelligence, He practiced law in Detroit with the firm that later became Tolleson, Mead, Welchli and Dahn. A competitive amateur golfer, he was three times club champion of the Country Club of Detroit. He served as President of that club and as President of the Gulf Stream Golf Club. He was a member of the Gulf Stream Bath and Tennis, Farmington Country Club and the U.S. Seniors.

He also served as Director of the William L. Clements Library at the University of Michigan. Mr. Tolleson's first wife, Joyce Elaine Middleditch of Grosse Pointe, Michigan died in 1931. In 1984 he married Jane Roseberry Ewaid and moved shortly thereafter to Charlottesville, Virginia.

Surviving are his wife Kitchie; daughters Suzanne Tolleson of Centre Conway, New Hampshire, Betsy Meyers of Wilton, Connecticut and Christine Collins of Chicago, Illinois; three step-children, John Hiram Ewaid and Charles Hildrath Ewaid of Charlottesville, VA and Katie Adams of Dorset, Vermont and eleven grandchildren. All dates to be determined, there will be a Memorial service in Gulf Stream and a later service in Charlottesville. He was 67 and had taught and coached at Marshall and Pierce Junior High schools and Thurston High School. When he retired in 1988, he had taught 28 years. He immediately took up another job. Mr. Zawadzki bought three stores, the Wolverine and Spartan Shop in Canton, and the Buckeye and Wolverine Joseph Joseph Zawadzki shops in Sylvania and Defiance, Ohio.

He never lost his love for U-M football. "He was a season-ticket holder from 1975," his son said. He also earned a master's degree at Eastern Michigan University.
