Brickey 's unpredictable sense of humor and limitless energy have been Krazy Fest staples. "We're importing him," Rich said.

"He'll be our first foreign emcee." The only major change to Krazy Fest is its location. While the Belvedere worked well logistically, three days of high-decibel rock didn't go over well with the neighboring Gait House. Last year, an angry bride-to-be demanded the stage be moved lest The Jazz June disrupt the ceremony, and pedestrians within earshot often heard a little more profanity than they normally heard while on their river walks. Krazy Fest 2001 is at the Water Tower, at River Road and Zorn Avenue. "The city is all for Krazy Fest," Rich said, "but wanted us to do it in a more secluded area." The Water Tower has plenty of room for Krazy Fest's usual food and drink concessions, and this year's music mart will be twice as big as last year's, Rich said.

Nearly every important record label will set up shop, offering CDs, LPs, posters and clothing. If ticket sales continue as they have, Rich said, Krazy Fest will need the extra acreage; it could break its single-day attendance record of 2,000. "I've been told that they've had as many as 3,500 people for an event out there. It's been a good run for Krazy Fest, the naughty little music festival that celebrates its fourth anniversary Friday through next Sunday at the Water Tower in Louisville.

The event, which started as little more than a crazy idea (hence the name), is now firmly established as one of the region's top draws on the punk-rock circuit. Its reputation can only be enhanced by this year's lineup, which includes some of th biggest and best bands in the underground'punkhardcore scene. "I'm excited and a little nervous because we've already sold three times as many weekend passes as we ever have before," said organizer Andy Rich, owner of Louisville's Initial Records, which sponsors the event. "Krazy Fest has always had a good lineup, but this one is pretty extraordinary." Rich, who booked Krazy Fest with Initial senior vice president Ryan Patterson, has brought in some huge names. The Vagrant America Tour, featuring bands on Vagrant Records, will be represented by Saves the Day, the Alkaline Trio, Dashboard Confessional, Hot Rod Circuit and Hey Mercedes.

Louisville's Elliott (see accompanying story) will be making its first hometown appearance in a year. Boy Sets Fire, Avail, Converge and the Dillinger Escape Plan, with guest star Sean Ingram, are also inspiring big ticket sales. And, yes, the Snake will return.
