N. Teaff. director of public utilities.

Several weeks ago, city council authorized the purchase from the Columbia Gas Electric Co. of an 8-inch existing gas main across the Miami river at Ihe High and Main street bridge. Although the main was never utilized, it was put in the bridge in 1014. The high pressure line will be run from Fourth and Dayton Sts. to the park on the west side.

A regulator there will give even pressure during a 24-hour period, and will be adequate to serve the needs of that part of the city. It is the intention of city officials to complete Ihe work before the winter months, when more gas is consumed than at any other time during the year. Not only will the regulator provide increased pressure, but it will decrease gas leakage throughout the city, officials say. The higher the pressure on one main line, the greater is leakage through small holes In the mains. Prom 11:45 a.
