And he was a lifetime member, a past president and a benefactor of Congregation B'nai Moshe in West Bloomfield. Mr. Deutsch had a winter home in Boca Raton, where he was a past president of the Boca Ria Golf Club. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served 4Vz years in the finance service. Besides his wife, survivors include sons Robert, Dennis and Morris, and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the Ira Kaufman Chapel, 18325 W. Nine Mile, Southfield, with burial in Clover Hill Park Cemetery, Birmingham. ZJevu Woodward Ave, Pleasant Kigge JABLQNSKI, CATHERINE M. 9.30am from Czopek Alfred Deutsch, who with his wife, Berniee, set up a million-dollar scholarship fund to help poor families send their children to synagogue schools, died of heart disease Tuesday at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was 87 and lived in West Bloomfield Township. The fund administered by the Jewish Federation was started earlier this year. "We chose this way to express our gratitude because we believe learning is basic to Jewish life," Mr.

Deutsch said at the time. "We'd like to see every family have the opportunity to educate their children as Jews and to participate in the Jewish community. "Besides, it feels good to give." He was the founder and former chairman of American Savings, at one time Michigan's largest state-chartered savings and loan. In 1946, he founded Citizens Mortgage of which he was president and chairman. He was a past president of the Michigan Savings Loan League.

Mr. Deutsch's philanthropy and service in the Jewish community were wide-ranging. In 19G7-68, he was chairman of the Allied Jewish Campaign, and was a past president of what is now the United Jewish Foundation. Foley retired when she was 50 and then she really went to work. She enrolled in Madonna University in Livonia, and earned a bachelor's degree in English. Miss Foley died Monday at the Heartland Health Care Center in Ann Arbor. She was 64 and lived in Flymouth. She had worked for Ameritech for 30 years, and retired in 1987 as manager of the department that investigates and resolves complaints of discrimination.

"She had an incredible job at Ameritech," her sister Ann Wier-cioch said Wednesday.
