There are 77 rooms in the Community Memorial Hospital. How many windows are there to care for? There are 85 exterior doors and windows with the outside, chore of washing. All windows throughout the hospital are ther- mopane. An automatic fire alarm system is installed in the hospital. There, are break glass pull style alarm stations placed throughout the building. Food will be served warm. An automatic heated food serving cart will be used to keep food at serving temperature for delivery to rooms. A cold drink of water should always be available. An automatic ice making machine is located near the nurse's station providing ice cubes as needed. An elevator provides movement from the ground floor to the first floor. The elevator, large enougr to take a bed, is a hydraulic automatic floor leveling and automatic door opening unit. A master control clock system keeps all clocks in the building at the same time. Emergency equipment is provid- 1 ed in case of power failure at anyj time. An automatic auxiliary electric generator will go into operation immediately in case of necessity. A lounge area for patients is provided for those persons who are able to move about. The lounge is so built that it can be converted into a double patient room, if needed. Oxygen is piped in all patient rooms, corridors, emergency, operating, and delivery rooms. A three-bed children's room offers homey, cheerful surroundings for youthful patients. Kitchen And Laundry Area The kitchen is located on the ground floor of the building and is equipped with new, modern units including a dishwasher, ranges, refrigerators, garbage disposer, separate heating and ventilation, and complete water softening system. A dining room opens off the kitchen for hospital employees to use. Furniture in this room is of wrought iron. Located down in the basement area is the laundry and storage rooms for linens. Rooms Decor Is Peaceful And Pastel The patient's rooms could be taken from the pages of an interior decorating magazine. Decorated in pastel shades, the rooms offer color combinations for restful recovery. Room windows open to rural landscapes on one side of the build ing and to the park area on the other. No hustle and bustle of heavy traffic will disturb the feeling of peace. Draperies in each room have been chosen to harmonize with colors used in the room. vent explosions which might occur from gasses seeking a lower level. Inside the emergency room, an operating light from the old hospital will hang from the ceiling. Various pieces of equipment for emergency rooms will be included. Just off the emergency room is an air conditioning unit which ventilates both this room and the surgery next door. Abundant storage and closet space is also found in the room. Ground Level Entrance At Doors Emergency Room Near Side Entry The emergency room at the Community Memorial Hospital is located just inside the west doors, the ambulance and doctor's entry. It has its light switches located head-high on the wall to help pre- All doors of the new hospital are at ground level . . . there are no steps leading in to any door. On the first floor, entrance at the lobby is from the paved drive and walk. Also on the first floor, the emergency or ambulance entrance at the side door is from a paved parking area. The ground floor level is entered from the back of the hospital with entrance again right from the parking level. At the front, the building is open only at the top level; at the rear the land is cut away leaving both floors open to the outside. Design, Equipment Is Latest In The Operating Room The operating room, delivery room and emergency room provide the latest in layout design, equipment and safety. When operating lights are turned on in these rooms, 100 per cent fresh air is heated or cooled, depending on weather conditions, by a special air changer located in the penthouse on the roof. Conductive vinyl flooring prevents slipping and protects against explosive anesthetics. Isolated lighting and power circuits also eliminate explosive action. New operating lights provide the latest in overhead lighting. X-Ray Room. The X-Ray room, manned by Gerald Guyer, technician, is equipped with a new General Electric 200 milliamp X-ray unit. A central sterile room is across the hall from the operating and emergency rooms. It is the central supply area for the hospital. he March of Progress.
