Parties off at Presley house PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Elvis Presley's "Honeymoon Hideaway" has become a heartbreak hotel for some of his fans. Last month, Palm Springs banned the use of celebrity residences for parties, tours and other commercial purposes after neighbors complained over noise and traffic. The Presley house, where Elvis and Priscilla went after their May 1, 1967, wedding in Las Vegas, is one of more than 30 celebrity homes affected. Palm Springs officials were seeking a court order to block a reception and barbecue planned for this weekend to commemorate the honeymoon. From Wire Service Reports T ADVICE Teen-age molester destined for serious problems Dear Ann Landers: I am writing in response to the letter from the mother whose 5-year-old daughter was molested by a 15- year-old boy. I hope she sees my letter and learns from it. My daughter, now 7, was molested by her 16- year-old cousin. My ex- husband knew this was happening, yet he never said a word to me about it and he allowed his nephew to continue to baby-sit for our daughter. Thank the good Lord my daughter finally ^ spoke up. Now the'entire family is aware of what went on. I was, however, reluctant to press charges because the boy is my ex-husband's nephew. Of course, my daughter is not permitted to visit her father's side of the ANN LANDERS Creators Syndicate Inc. family when that boy is present, but I feel uneasy about the fact that nothing is being done about this teen-ager's problem, which I consider serious. I sympathize with the mother of that 5- year-old, .and I hope and pray that she will have the courage to press charges. I will always regret that I wasn't strong enough to do it the moment I was aware of what was happening. Now I think it's too late. Please print this, but leave my name and city out. — Tormented in Texas Dear Texas: All the experts say molesters rarely stop without intensive therapy. Your nephew needs help, or he is destined to have far more serious problems later on. I hope that you will pursue this with a professional and not let the matter drop. That boy needs help, and the young members of his family need to be protected. Dear Ann Landers: May I impose on you to print one more letter on smoking? TV TONIGHT For a long time, I was concerned over my sister's health because she was such a heavy smoker. Her hacking cough drove me crazy. But because I had a drug habit of my own, I didn't feel I was in a position to give her any flak, so I kept my mouth shut. . Two years ago, I'd had it up to here. I told my sister if she would give up smoking, I would give up using drugs. She said, "It's a deal." We shook hands and have stayed clean ever since. The desire never goes away, but seeing the improvement in our lives has kept us 'determined to stay the course. Trying to overcome any addiction alone was too overwhelming. When we decided to hang in there together, the healing process began. — Sober in Seattle Dear Sober: Six cheers from Chicago! I'm betting you will make it. Please write again in six months with a progress report. Dear Ann Landers: I have a 12-year- old friend whose parents are divorced. "Alyson" lives with her mother. Her father lives in a different state and sends her money so she can visit him once a month. Alyson hates going to her father's home because he works during the day and she has to spend the whole time with his new wife — who isn't very nice. Alyson doesn't want to hurt her father's feelings by refusing to go. What should she do? — Concerned Friend in N.C. Dear N.C.: Does Alyson's father haye friends with children near her age so she doesn't have to spend the whole day with her stepmother? If not, is there any way she could bring a friend (like you) along on these trips? I hope, for Alyson's sake, these possibilities are explored. Command performances for children of divorce can be very depressing. 5/1/97 7:00 7:30 8:00 8:30 9:00 9:30 10:00 10:30 7:00 7:30 8:00 | 8:30 9:00 9:30 10:00 10:30 I PBS, Bunker Hill-Hay* lOUM 1265 School* 6062 Mystery! 47178 Nagasaki Jrny Arts 44456 MotorWeek I MTV Music Videos 671130 Yol337 nglt ovellne I NBC, Wichita rlends9325 Suddenly?
