Carroll — Ph. 792-2863 Spurgeon's Grand Opening Set For Thursday Planning and laying out merchandise displays at the new Spurgeon's Department Store at 521 North Adams has been a day and night job for five assistant managers. Lonnie Huffman of Newton, Norman Rathbun of Muscatine, and Jim Akerman of Knoxville have been helping sales clerks in displaying the wide variety of goods. After the grand opening, set for Thursday, the assistant managers will return to their home stores or travel to help open other Spurgeon stores. LeMasters will remain in Carroll to assist Roger Haynes, manager, with any last-minute changes with the merchandise after the store opens. Planning the location of merchandise and attractively displaying it is a big task with 42 departments each offering hundreds of items. The new Spurgeon's store, which formerly housed Ser- nett's, has been completely remodeled and renovated. New floors have been installed with gold tweed carpeting in the ready-to-wear departments.
