The propositions presented by Mr. Wells and no doubt by other candidates in the field, are steps in the right direction, as heretofore farmers and laboring men never knew what was being perpetrated upon them until. their heads were in the noose as is the case in the present ditch steal- While on the other hand, banks, corporations, trusts and combinations invariably have their lawyers and lobbyists on the ground as regularly as the laboring man goe3. to his daily work, looking out for their interest and the reverse. He solicits a part of the public patronage. Among the aspirants for office at the polls at the approaching election, and who is soliciting the support of every voter, in the county regardless of party affiliations, is the man whose physiognomy is at the head of this ar-cle and bears the name given him in youth, W. S. Wells.

He is seeking the; election as one of the state representatives to our state legislature, and from what we can glean throughout the county he stands in the lead in the race' above "11 other aspirants. Since- his nomination he has visited almost every nook and corner in the county, hiakr ing himself and wants known, and well does it seem he accomplished his mission, which will be shown when the votes are counted in November. Not only is he said to be extremely popular and a vote-getter among the country people, but in every town and our great county capital. "Several years ago he laid down his hammer in one of the Pennsylvania railroad shops in Fort 3Tayii6rat theeidiationyofi fellow; employees and started out as a candidate for the same office he-now seeks, -and. was suc cessful by a large majority.

But his friends, the labor organizations and others, who gave him such a handsome encorsement four or five years ago, not only at the polls but after his return, home to the toils of labor in the shops, are now hand in hand for his re turn, as they deem it to their in terest to have a man in the leg islature who has the backbone and ability to champion their in terests. That he- is capable of doing this is evident from theJ fact that he has been there and understands how to throw the ropes as no young or new member can do.

He has several well-learned lessons in legislative schooling that a hew member is bound to. go. through, thus while Wells, if elected, can stand at the head of the class or near that nosltion. new members are at the foot with closed mouths, eager to know when to head in Not only is his former experience an advantage, but he is a man of good judgment, and none bet ter for the place Again, a good reason why he should receive the support of every farmer in the county is that he has pledged himself to use every effort possible, if elected, to secure the repeal of the present ditch law now on the statutes, and, which is ah outrage and robbery to every farmer and 1 Fort Wayne, ci uii purtnascs or 5d.UU Or THIS SPACE Indiana.
