Police attempt to link rape woman to others BATON ROUGE (AP)-A 75-year-old woman working in her yard was hit by a stray rifle bullet fired by a teen age boy, officials said. Betty Miller was working in her wooded yard in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood when a bullet hit her in the upper body Thursday afternoon, according to reports. Officer Mary Ann Godawa, spokeswoman for Baton Rouge police, said two boys, aged 16 and 17, were doing target practice in a back yard when one of their shots went through a fence and hit Miller. Their back yards butted up to each other and the woman was in the back yard doing some yard work when she was hit," Godawa said. Miller was taken to Lake Regional Medical Center where she was listed in serious condition Friday.

Her injuries are not life-threatening," Godawa said. Police said the two boys called emergency officials after they heard Miller scream when Easter Sale save 30 off our everyday low prices hop away with savings of 50 to 60 off department store prices she was hit by the bullet. The victims have been at least 67 years old.

The man usually forced his way into the residence and tied up many of the victims. The suspect consistently has been described as white, in his 20s or 30s, standing 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds. Some women said he had scruffy facial hair, the color varying from blond to a reddish tint. He sometimes has worn a ball cap. The investigation into the most recent rape is complicated Louisiana 11 replaced by the Tupelo, Christian broadcast network known as American Family Radio.

The network bought a station last fall and began to broadcast on 91.1 FM --too close to KVLU's frequency for the translator to remain on the air. AFR is now planning to also begin broadcasting on 90.3 FM, which overlaps KRVS' 90.5 FM. Both stations are licensed to Dry Creek. Lake Charles attorney Edwin Hunter, a longtime supporter of public broadcasting in Louisiana, said he is dismayed by the proliferation of faith-based sectarian stations that are operating on the noncommercial portion of the FM band. Hut detectives aren't ruling out a connection to previous crimes because of the victim's age, the location and the suspect description of a young white man with a beard, Detective Paula Langford said. The victim couldn't give detectives an exact time and date of the crime, but they believe it was within 24 hours of her call to a relative Wednesday afternoon, Langford said. Detectives couldn't find any evidence at the residence that the woman was tied up, Langford said.

KVLU had classical music, while KRVS featured French-language shows featuring Cajun and zyde-co music. Neither AFR station is required to produce local shows. The FCC has waived the local studio requirement for one frequency and is expected to grant a similar waiver for the other, said FCC communications analyst Allen Myers, who is handling the request.

A religious broadcasting network has taken over the frequencies of KRVS-FM and KVLU-FM. KVLU shut down in January, while KRVS is expected to leave the air by Wednesday. Both are translators, the technical term for stations that merely rebroadcast a signal that originates in another city. KVLU was operated by Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, while KRVS originates at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Under Federal Communications Commission rules, translators are not protected and can bo bumped from the air if a full-power station is licensed on or near their frequencies.
