"I'm doing the instrument panel from some old pictures of a wrecked Cavelier," he said. "I'm doing the landing gear, the seat and the controls from what I remember from the prototypes." I helped build the original plane, and I know how it should be built for safety, My friends help me with the design, and I check a lot with the FA A (Federal Aviation Administration) for tip's." • In the past four years, Meek's ungainly creation has developed into a skeletal structure of 31-foot wood wings and an iron bar fuselage. Mounted on the nose of the 1,300-pound craft is a 90horsepower engine build from spare parts he collected all the way from Texas to Alaska. He said with another year of tinkering in his garage and basement, the plane should be ready to fly. It resembles a stubby Ford tri-motor and is covered with cotton fabric. The first flights will be FAA tests of the experimentally- rated plane, and Meek admits that the first 90-mile-an-hour cruise will be as much a test of his memory as It is of the plane. sometimes you can actually pay a lower price for higher quality.
