MORE SCAREDJHAS HURT, Weather Bulletin Causes Great Excitement in Kearney. hlmpljr li (ieneral Warulng-CltlM-un Walt Patiently In t'avea-Mole II I Mm IteioniM Mountain No Cyclone at Night -Urt-at 'Faith 1 1. I'reillctioui. A Bjilcniliil illustration of how rumors will run and magnify wa" exhibited on the streets yesterday afternoon. Soon after dinner Olmerver Curley received the following Hpec.al bulletin from Harrington, Chief of the department Ht H'whinKton: "The Htorm which iH now central in eastern Montana in likely to caune Revere local etoruiH on Tiienilay afternoon or nilit in the Iiakutac, Minne-Rota and the central Minxoiiri valley.

While it is not jioHnible to give definite location of tin-He Btoniis. the region in which they may poenilily ocenrr in elated in order that those living in the threatened districts may carefully 4terve the local conditions and should the weather become threatnintf to take advantage of the warning." To the casutil reader there nothing bo very startling or forebiiling in the above, esecially to the inhabitants of Kearney, but it was enough to start stories (lying and by supper time one could hear all sorts of terrible things that were going to hap pen. A few of the rumor are worthy of publication as they are so fearfully exagerated and show how excited come people become without the least foundation for their fears. It must remembered, also, that the aliove special is all and the only one received by the observer here and was sent to all observers in the central Missouri valley, so it could have no special local application. In spit i of all this, however, one party told the writer that Mr.

Curly had been receiving dispatches hourly, and that the last one stated there were five separate cyclones coming this way and were then passing through Montana, South Dakota and Minnesota; that they were coming with unusual force and violence, increasing as they came and would center and unite at Kearney. It would reach here at o'clock and probably sweep the city from end to end. Several gentlemen went home, took heavy timbers down cellar, leaned them up against the nort i wall and covered them securely while some who have cyclone caves, went into them and remained from 7 until o'clock. It was the general talk on the street and there was an opportunity for a cyclone insurance agent to do "aland office business." About o'clock after the scare began to blow over, Mr. Curley was met on Central avenue two blocks north of the opera house and in reply to the question, "How's the cyclone, Curley?" he said that was the four hundredth time he had Iteen asked that question since leaving his office, and he was going home and lock himself up.

lie knew no more than anybody else and simply sent out the bulletin he had received. It will be remembered that a similiar dispatch was sent out by Mr. Harrington twenty-four hours before the terrible disaster in Iowa. He did not say it would strike 1'onieroy, hut be warned all in that region and the lives of some were saved by the warning. One thing, however, was pretty well demonstrated last evening ami that is, that people have considerable faith in the predictions made by the weather bureau department and don't cire about tilting too many chances when warned.

As a cyclone has never been known to do any damage after 5( o'clock at night, people then began to grow easier and this morning everybody is as happy as before. Never Tim Old To Lenrn. The police court was crowded today to hear a case brought by a man who gave his name as Randolph and his home as Sumner, against May Sexton, proprietress of a house on the txittoms.
