Robert Logan, of Washington township, met with a serious accident on Thursday. He waa engaged in stacking lay, and hnving just finished Kipping out a stack, he stuck his fork into the day to cnable.him to get down. When part way down the handle of tho fork broke into tlirco pieces, causing the prongs to turn, and one of thepointg entered his side. A fatal accident was prevented by the prong striking a rib. As it is ho was badly hurt.

The base ball game played here on, Tuesday by the Marietta and Cambridge Clubs 10stilted in a victory for tho former by a score of 20 to 21. Both clubs made many cirors, which accounts for the big scores. The Marietta club is comopsed of gentlemen, and they made many friands dating their short stay here. Tho "paper skin" is making havoc among the sheep many parts of the county. The "foot rot" is also bad.

The latter disease Is said to have a stronger "foot" hold in this county now'then ever before. The finely bred Vermont sheep are said to be rnoie susceptible to tho disease than the common grades. A musical social will be held at the homo of Mrs. W. S.

The above announcement in tbe Victor, Iowa, Herald conveys the sad news of the passing away of an old and true friend of many of the residents of this county who will feel deeply grieved at the death of one who by her sterling worth" and manifold excellence ot character was endeared to the hearta of all her neighbors. Wherry came in 1827, having emigrated from Culpepper county, Virginia, where alie was born in 1S05, and four years later married Mr. Jas. Wherry. After wr. Wherry's death in 1877 she removed to Poweabiek county, Iowa, and made her home with ber only daaghter, Mrs.

John Lindsey. She waa the mother of a large family, all ol whom were present at her death gave D. P. Wherry, ot Moinea, Iowa, whose wife's iilness kept him at home. She waa a member of the TT.
